False empty toner reading

I am getting a false toner empty reading--toner has been replaced. Any suggestions on how to fix? False paper jams, false empty toner, flashing orange light, records print commands, but no longer prints.  Display screen gone blank.

Hi,

You may need to do a full reset.
1. Turn machine on while pushing and holding the TWO up/down menu buttons at same time.
2. Menu window will show "OKI USER"
3. Scroll to " Engine Dialog Mode" is indicated. Push Enter button.
4. "Diagnostic Mode xx.xx.xx S-Mode is indicated.
5. Scroll to "NV-Ram initial" is indicated. Push ENTER.
6. Window shows "NV-Ram- Initial Table 1".
7. Push ONLINE and ENTER Buttons simultaneously and HOLD for 10 seconds after you see "Executing Reset" appear in menu window.
8. Restart printer.

The above is of course assuming no hardware/firmware fault on the printer.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

It sounds like the whole printer has gone nuts.

Turn the printer off and unplug the printer. Wait 30 seconds and plug it back in and turn the power switch back on.

It resetting the power doesn't work, it soulds like it needs a trip to the repair shop or another one.

That should work and solve the issues

  • Rishi Roshan Ali Jul 12, 2008

The problem comes because of the microprocessor and the hardware programming, sometimes it freezes and has data bits stuck in it, normally this should be corrected by turninf it off and on dumping the memmory but sometimes the settings gets messed up. for example the printer contains a built in timer or clock to measure toner amounts, transfer drum life etc. if this gets stuck then the problem insues, you can alos use the aove reset if you wish to refil your toner as well..

Why do i have a false jam reading?

I understand that you're receiving what you believe to be a 'false' paper jam on your HP Photosmart C6280 All-in-One Printer. I would like to work with you today with resolving this issue. Paper jams can be real or false. The product might report a paper jam even when there is no jammed paper. A false paper jam may also be the result of having a bad paper jam at a point in time and that bad jam causing a hardware issue to the paper sensor or rollers. I am going to provide you with some additional troubleshooting steps that apply to both real and false paper jams. You did state that you already checked the paper pathway inside the printer and failed to find any evidence of paper being stuck, but please run the step-by-step troubleshooting below, even if you have already run some of the steps.

Here are the steps for clearing the path:

My printer gives an error message "paper jam" when there isn't any jam

Paper is nearly always sensed with little, black levers that are pushed out of the way as the paper passes over it. Inkjet printers normally have just one sensor, while laser printers often have three to localize a jam in the paper path. Take out the paper and drum/toner assemblies and look carefully for the levers. See if they wiggle freely. Since they must be delicate enough to be pushed aside by a sheet of paper, it doesn't take much dust to stick one down, giving a false jam reading. A little wiggling and blowing might fix it.

Canon Copier Model C122F - error light flashing

A common mistake is that people think that the waste toner needs to be emptied and instead the toner needs to be replaced --- and vice versa. Check to make sure that the toner bottle is not empty. Also, if you made copies that took ( used ) more toner then the machine was able to replenish, the machine has not had a chance to catch up. Place a white sheet of paper on the platen glass and make blank white copies. You may only be able to get 1-2 copies at first but as the device catches up with the toner replenish you should be able to make more. The blank copies you make -- do NOT put that paper right back into the machine. Lay it flat and let it cool, this will help prevent unwanted jamming due to heat build up in the paper. IF you have good amount of new toner in the machine, gently tap the front line ( or rear line) that feeds the used toner into the waste bottle. Sometimes the waste toner will clog and back up into the machine giving false 'waste toner full' message.

Waste Toner Full/ Not install still on screen after I emptied and will not print. I emptied container and reinstalled and still same message on screen

Behind the little container for the waste toner there is a sensor that senses whether the toner basket is full or not. If the sensor itself is dirty, it can give a false reading. First try cleaning out the area under the container to see if the switch works. Also make sure the container is clean, because the sensor works by sight, so if it looks full because it's dirty, it will give a false reading. I have heard of people disabling that sensor in various ways, but that can get dangerous to the printer. I can't recall the details on that exact model, but I believe there is a diagnostic of some sort that can test that sensor to make sure it works right to begin with.
