SOURCE: Iris problem with PT-AX100U projector

My panasonic hdtv seems to have developed a yellowish tint to the screen

Sounds like the polarizing film is burnt on one of the three colored lenses that are located next to the projector itself. In order to fix this this it is necessary to remove the ballast and projector units, then disassemble the projector housing to expose the lenses. there are green, blue and vermillion (reddish) lenses. the vermillion lense is the one that causes the yellow tint after it has been damaged.
searching for the pt-43lc14-k service manual (the 'k' version is the more complete one) will provide you with daigrams and such.
I am currently undergoing this repair myself, thus far we have disassembled the television and are waiting on new vermillion polarizing film in order to complete the reapir. Good Luck, it isn't too difficult. Just take lots of digital camera pics (for screw location and sizing) and you should be fine.

I fixed my TV. As I said, the TV would come on and work normally for about 1 minute. Then, it would turn off and the red power LED would blink continuously with the fan running, indefinitely. One more thing I did not mention previously is that the LAMP led on the front panel would blink once every 4 to 5 seconds.

After reading many different blogs, I went for the cheap fix first. I purchased the Ballast repair kit, Panasonic P/N LSUC0022. $21. It required opening up the ballast unit and replacing some components on the PCB. I noticed that some of the values of the components were different than the original ones. Unfortunately, the symptoms after this repair were the same. Oh well - no harm done. Perhaps improved it for the long run.

Next thing to try was the bulb. A costly thing to try, but an extra buld won't go to waste if I get the TV working.

Much to my surprise, this did the trick. Works fine now. The bulb had 1600 hours on it.

By the way, I went the less expensive route for the bulb. I purchased the bulb only - not the bulb with the enclosure. It was very easy to do, and much less expensive. I also purchased a Philips brand bulb, which is supposed to be much better than the original. If you decide to go the "bulb only" route, I highly recommed getting it here http://www.discount-merchant.com/Panasonic-TY-LA1500-Replacement-Lamp-bare-bulb-p/panasonic_ty-la1500_lamp_1.htm&Click=1683. This buld includes the wires and connectors, and requires only a screwdriver. This company also offers a Philips bulb with the entire enclosure. Don't get a bulb only that requires cutting wires and soldering!

I did eventually get a service manual. The troubleshooting chart for the LED blink pattern I had indicated the following:

"Wait until the lamp has cooled off. Confirm that the Thermal Fuse Unit is not open. Still NG, replace the Lamp. Still NG, replace the Ballast C.B.A. Still NG, replace the Main C.B.A."

Thanks to the person who responded! Your kindness inspired me to respond back with my results....

My Panasonic PT-LB50U LCD projector flashes red lamp indicator and will not light up. I replaced the lamp and it still will not light. The old lamp only had 20 or so hours on it and it does the same thing....

this worked for me what i did is: turn on projector then undo the light panel when its on the projector then will cut off, now the light panel pushes down on the hidden safety switch take a screw driver and push down on the switch, the projector will turn on then wait for about 8 sec then release the projector will turn off, repeat step several times until the light flickers, then do a couple more times and the light should come on and should stay steady turn off and let cool for 10 min, this worked for me hope it works for you!

Well need to know about how many hours the set has run, becuse it might simply be the lamp, the other problem or problems could be if a fan is stoping or the color wheel is stoping this will shut the set down, so fire it up and listen to it for any diferant sounds

Projection tv lamps

All fillament based lights will dim as they age. Some of the newer/better types it will be unnoticible.  If you are losing image quality or brightness you may have a bulb that is nearing the end of it's life cycle.  A glance at you owners manual or the manufactor's website should give you an indication of the expected life of your bulb.  Also most of the projector made in the past few years have a counter that tallies the amount of hours your bulb has been on.  A more likely culprit is probably dust accumilation somewhere inside your projector. Most projectors have filters these days and need to cleaned at certain intervals and in certains ways.  Not cleaning these filters can cause heat build up that can increase operating temps and shorten the life of your bulb and or projector.  Or sometimes jsut fail and cause a dramatic decrease in image quality.  Again these things are vendor/model specific so you will want to check with them about your particular model. Hope this helps.
