Question about Audio & Video Receivers

1 Answer

All of my speaker applications and drivers for my laptop (Compaq Presario C300) seem to be working, but I'm not getting any sound out of any streaming media or music files using RealPlayer or any other kind of media player; I just can't seem to find the problem.

It turns out that the problem happened to be an overlooked error: the Wave Synth meter in the volume panel was muted, thus I was getting feedback but no noise. My problem is fixed now; hopefully I don't make anymore simple mistakes like that again.

The manual is here...

Flashing Blue is not defined in the manual.

Have you tried changing the Auto Standby switch to ON?

You can prove if the sub amp will respond to a known good input by TURNING ITS VOLUME DOWN tp start and just feeding it ANY RCA output from the receiver while playing, say, FM (to keep it simple). That way you would known in which direction the problem actually lies (internal or external).

All fixed, thanks to Maanita. Problem was that I had a USB microphone (gooseneck Logitech AK5370) plugged in for my Skype calls. Not knowing anything about audio, I didn't realize the mic was interfering with my laptop speakers -- assumed turning off the mic was sufficient. Also, Maanita re-installed the sound drivers, which I wouldn't have known how to do. It sure beat calling someone at $60 an hour + expenses to come out here. What a delight to find Fixya! Thanks again!

I got new speakers for my compaq presario 5000US series. how do i make them compatible with my system?

You should just have to plug them in. It should be as simple as that, There should be a "miniture stereo" jack from the speakers (usually coloured green). There should be an audio out jack on your compaq. Just plug it in.

If this is a laptop, there MAY be a setting in your control panel to redirect the audio to external speakers. Sheck your compaq owners manual.

Sound drivers in/op

The logitech speakers are plug and play and should need no drivers. Here is the web page: I suspect you need the drivers for your sound card or for integrated audio.

Minimal sound out of all of my speakers

it could be there is not a driver installed on your computer in which case you have to download a driver and Best Buy can tell you how to do that. Also check in control box and make sure volume is not set to mute

Main speakers A and B not working...

Two possibilities for the no sound on the main speakers:
1) May be caused by the lack of the pre out main in jumper on the back of you reciever.
2) Check to make sure the -10db selector is not stuck between positions.
