    Radio transmits on PA & U/L SSB.OK....

Will not transmit on AM. just a deadkey with no meter movement. Cannot check SWR or Calibrate due to problem.

Checked all wiring in mic. checked OK

Either the mike or cable is bad or you have a problem in the transmit speech amplifier or modulator.

My swr meter will not calibrate. I put it on fwd, Key the mike, put it on ref,and it pegs the needle. why?

Antenna may have a dead short or is open, there may be water in the cable, SWR is beyond the scale of the SWR meter.
Check all connections, make sure you have the radio and the antenna well grounded. if possible disconnect both ends of the coax cable and test cable with a ohm meter for a short or open.
Test the SWR meter on a known good antenna and cable if possible.

On my Cobra 25 LTD CLassic, New my meter drops when transmitting

is this a new out of the box radio?if so you might need a tech to look at it because it could be an internal problem. It would have to be put on an analyzer and a scope to actually be seen doing what you say.don't worry because it can be fixed.the cost of fixing it is the problem. You have to decide whether you want to pay more for the repair than you paid for the radio. Either way,new or used the answer is the same.

My new Astatic Road Devil will not transmit audio on my Cobra 2000, it came with a 4pin plug and I put on a 5pin 1 white(audio) 2 shield 3 black(recieve) 4 blue(common) 5 red (transmit) yellow(n/a)

recheck that you have the wiring correct. you will need the wiring of the cobra 2000/148gtl/grantxl... can't remember the pin outs. what you have posted is not the correct one??? i think.

Cant recieve or output , I bought a new cable and antenna plus a swr meter.

With an antenna connected, volume set to 1/4 from minimum, squelch / RF squelch fully counter-clockwise (or minimum) - do you hear anything from the speaker? If not - plug an earphone / external speaker into the external speaker jack on the rear - any sound? If not, do you see the S/RF meter needle moving (not resting on 0 or 1)? If not - find a channel with activity on as indicated by the S/RF meter first.

Try with another antenna connected if possible, or transmit with another CB radio on the same channel nearby - and try again.

If you aren't able to receive sound (not just static) - or indicated signals on the S/RF meter, the radio *MAY* need to be professionally serviced. Make sure you get an estimate for the work before authorizing - otherwise you may be spending more on a repair than the radio is worth. It is not uncommon to have to pay a diagnostic fee - that most shop will put toward the repair if allowed to do the work.

Good luck!

Hi i have a texas star cb with a echo power mike on it,i can pick up other radios fine but it will not transmit, put new battery in mike also tried other working mike on radio.no help.any ideas.thanks jb

Have you tried a different mic on the radio in question?

Sounds like the final transistor could be blown. try replacing it with the same part.

If your not sure how, take it to a cb shop.

Most of these kinds of radios will have two audio chips , on for transmit and one for recieve.sounds like you popped the recieve audio chip.

Cb on 1994Goldwing doesn't work.

Just off the top of my head, It sounds like a bad microphone connection. When you press the transmit button on the mike. it is supposed to shut off your recieve while you talk, so you dont feed back through the speakers. From what you write it sounds like the recieve is being shut down, but your voice isnt getting through. I would try a differnt mike, or if you are handy try taking the connector off the mike apart and look for a broke or loose connection.
