Unable to locate and load drivers???

So I am away from home for about a month in the middle of no where with one computer in the house. So I brought along my laptop and my wireless router. Now I didn't bring the disk, so I am using the easy installment on the Belkin website to put the router on the home computer. But whenever I click to install it, and it scans for network connection, a pop up comes up and says "Error: Unable to locate and load drivers."

How can I fix it?

Could you break it down for me? I tried what you said and it didn't quite work. I am awfully bad at trying to computer net connections.

I had the same "locate and load" problem with my router, i went to my browser to set things up... and eventually I've noticed that NOT CONNECTED turned into CONNECTED, but I'm not sure what I did, because of crappy windows (you have to reset a few times to see that something really changes!) ...but still, I can't use the net, and I'm typing this from the computer on the same LAN, but that uses Ubuntu OS!!! I recommend that you "try Ubuntu, without a change to your computer", the option that you get when inserting Ubuntu 7+ in your CD-ROM...;)

to open the routers web interface, use the wizards on the router there is no need to install anything

from internet explorer, firefox, safari whatever browser is your comfort zone, enter in the address bar

    http://192.168.2.1

and press enter or click ok

that is the default IP address of your router, and will open the router's internal website, a structured menu that will guide you through the settings to secure your router

each page of the menu has extensive help screens that will explain why you are doing, as well as just tell you what to do.

    the wizards are pretty good

I had the exact same problem - did not have my CD, so downloaded easy installer from the web, but got the error about unable to load drivers.

I tried 192.168.2.1 but it did not work - at least not at first. After a couple of minutes I realized the wireless light on my router turned on, so I hooked up the ethernet cable from the router to my computer.

I tried 192.168.2.1 a couple times, and finally it connected and I was able to reconfigure the router.

A router-router solution can be effective.
How to improve signal strength in my home!
*Put large furniture along the exterior walls of your home
*Minimize mirrors. All metallic surfaces reflect WiFi signals, including the thin metal layer found in most mirrors.
*Place your router in one of the following locations:
  • Near the center of the house
  • Off the floor, ideally on a high shelf
  • As far as possible from your neighbor's Wi-Fi router (which, of course, you've made sure is using a different channel)
  • Away from cordless phones and microwaves, which operate on the same 2.4-Ghz frequency.(There are some cordless phones that are Wi-Fi friendly)
  • Keep antennas as far away from power cords and other computer wires as possible. Those cords and wires can interfere with radio reception.

Experiencing disconnections

Hi,

There could be other devices that run the same wireless frequency as your wireless network. You may want to change the channel on your wireless router or if you have an option to change other wireless devices at home such as cordless phone then you may do so. You may want to place the router away from those devices and put it in the middle of your wilreless computers to get better signal.

You should call Linksys tech support now. The router needs to be configured manually. The tech that you hired maybe not familiar on how to configure the Linksys router.

Cannot get router to work on PC hard cabled to router

no. We have two PC's and one lap top in the network and the two PC's have been on the system for the whole time. the laptop was new. Last night I worked with "smilemaker" and before all was said and done, I now have no internet service at my house.
When I try to load the software for the router, it says that it can't find the internet but eventually get to the screen when it ways that it is configuring the computer but never goes beyond that point. I have tried uninstalling the software, unplugging the router from power and the PC, then starting all over again and still have the same result.
