Propmpts are usually dependent on the operating system. If your OS is hosed, kaput, non fuctional the normal prompts may not appear.
Recovery/restore cd/dvd are usually bootable.
following the propmpts that appear when you power on, enter the bios and change the order of boot devices to cd/dvd drive first. insert restore disk in drive, boot, and the boot handler on restore disk should begin its restore.

  • should, usually, most -used with caution there are some poorly made restore disks that dont boot to a restore OS, but not many, and not recently

I fthis is your Operating system restore CD, then it won't come up in Windows automatically. It is designed to work during initial boot-up of your machine.

Reboot and then watch for the prompt to boot to cd... that will start your recovery process.

Hope that helps.

Dear foxhugh,

Hello and welcome to FixYa!

Your eMachine should automatically boot from the DVD once it is inserted. Please backup and important data to an external drive or other device before running the Factory Restore.
Follow the factories on-screen prompts to restore the drive.

I want to Reformat my Netbook. because its so slow.

In a Dell computer we have this call Dell Factory Image Restore.

If the HDD was not replace ever then you can perform this.

To access Dell Factory Image Restore you need to hold down F8 just right after turning on the laptop. an option will appear like Repair My Computer. Select this option and look for the Dell Factory Image Restore after that. Just follow the prompts then everything will be restored to the factory settings.

If the HDD was replace then you need to use the Windows Installation CD. Just right after turning on laptop you need to hold down F12 then insert the Windows installation CD then select DVD/CD then press enter key then keep tappin on space bar to make sure it will boot to the DVD drive. From there follow the prompts for the installation.

Hope this helps.

How to use the restore disks

1. Insert the restore disk into your computer's DVD/CD drive. Prior login to your user account is not required.

2.Reboot your computer. Watch the boot screens and wait for the onscreen prompt to press any key. If you do not get a prompt, reboot your computer once more and skip to step four.

3.Press any key to boot from CD when prompted to do so. You will now be taken to the first screen in the restore process. Follow the onscreen prompts to finish restoring your machine.

4.Change your BIOS settings, if necessary, to boot from your CD drive first. Common options for entering the BIOS include pressing "ESC," "DEL" or "F12" on your computer's first boot screen. If you don't know how to get to the BIOS, check your computer's documentation for instructions. Once inside the BIOS, set the primary boot to CD-ROM and save your changes. Exit the BIOS and wait as your computer reboots and begins the restore process.

Good luck.

How to reset my computer to factory defalts like it was when i got it new?

Use a factory restore/recovery disc if one is provided when your computer is purchase new. Insert disc into cd-rom and change boot priority or if in startup there is a boot option, use cd/dvd rom as first boot priority and follow instruction. If one disk is not provided, with some (branded such as sony, hp, etc) a recovery/restore partition is created within the harddrive, if this is valid, when booting up the computer, there should be a F-key prompting setup or etc.... if there is press that F key and follow instruction. If partion drive is not created for recovery/resotore, then you must create one disc... You can create this disc when in the operating system, go to your start task and in "all program" see if there is any recovery tools or aplication, which is usually your brand application exm.... acer computer has "acer recovery" and use such program to create a restore disc, once disc is created, turn of computer and set your boot prefernce to cd/dvd and then insert your disc and restart your computer, a black screen will be followed and prompt you that it is booting from cd/dvd rom and follow instruction. If one disc or program is not provide, consult your computer brand and have them send a copy of your factory restore disc for a small fee at your own cost.

Before beginning, here are the items you will need:
A. Computer/laptop B. Microsoft Windows OS CD/DVD
1. Power on your computer. 2. Insert the Windows OS CD/DVD in to the optical drive. 3. Restart the computer and boot from the CD/DVD when prompted. 4. When I insert a cd the screen prompts me the please eject

A main cause for this is the dvd player dosent support the dvd or the dvd is damaged,, another thing could be that the lens on the cd player needs cleaning

How to restore a Presario OS

Hello, Click the "Start" button located on the bottom left side of the screen. Click "All Programs" and then click "Recovery Manager Recovery Manager". Click "Yes" to allow the program to run. Click the "Advanced Options" button, then click "Recovery Disc Creation". Click "Next" for the program to analyze your computer2_bing.gif. This process may take anywhere from a few minutes to up to an hour to complete, so be patient. After it completes, you'll see a prompt asking you to insert a disk. Insert a blank DVD-R2_bing.gif or DVD+R into your drive and click "Next". The recovery manager will then begin burning the back-up disk(s). When one disk is done, the program prompts you to enter another until the recovery disks have all been burned. Click "Finish" to complete the process.

How do i master reset my acer 5220. my accer 5220 wont start up, it started playing up about a week ago and i think it had a bug but now wont load past the windows screen. i have tried loading in all the...

If the system can not boot, you can restore it from the WinPE environment. The system starts from the hidden partition on the hard drive. To begin the restoration, press Alt + F10 (PC Tower) or F10 (laptop) to boot the PC and when the Acer logo appears. This will start the system from the hidden partition the hard drive and you access its main page. The restoration will be on partition C:. The partition D: (ACERDATA) will not be formatted, and therefore documents will not be deleted but it is always prudent to think about making a backup of your most important documents in case!
Note: You will be asked to enter the password before the System Restore starts. If you enter the wrong password three times, the computer will restart into the operating system.

You must enter the password to access the main page of the hidden partition. The main page of the hidden partition provides three options to restore the system:

1 - Restore the system to factory default settings: Select this option and then enter the password. The utility will restore the system from the image of the factory default settings on the hidden partition on the hard drive. When prompted, confirm the system restore. A message will warn you that you will lose all data on the disc. The utility then restores the system to its original state.
2 - Restore the system from backup user: Select this option and then enter the password. The utility restores the system from the image of the user on the second partition on the hard disk. When prompted, confirm the system restore. A message will warn you that you will lose all data on the partition. The utility then restores the system to safeguard user the most recent.
3 - Restore the system from the CD / DVD: When this option is selected, insert the first disc of the backup in the optical drive. Confirm System Restore when prompted. A message will warn you that you will lose all data on the partition. The utility will restore the system from the backup image on CD / DVD. Insert the other disks when prompted.

Note: If you are trying to restore the system to its factory default settings stored on CDs / DVDs, Acer eRecovery Management prompts you to insert disc 2 to start.

Good Luck
