Hello I'd be happy to help :-). I think the problem is that the screen is corrupted or defective or even might not be receiving electricity to power it. if this has been happening since you first got it that means you can return it and get a brand new one. But If this has just occured that means that you should call Compaq and see if they can repair for you. I Hope this helps and I'd appreciate it if you commented my solution. thanks :-)

First instinct would tell me that your LCD has gone bad. A refurbished replacement LCD should run around $300-$325 give or take.

Keep us posted, good luck

When you hooked up external monitor, did you switch to it via "Fn" keys?
If it did not help, then it's GPU ot North Bridge on the board that needs service.

Compaq Evo N610C Faint Screen

Usually it's the inverter. Sometimes it's the backlight / lcd, and occasionally it's the lcd cable and or video card.

Easiest thing to do is order a replacement inverter from ebay. They're cheap and then swap it. You just need to remove the outside lcd bezel, it's just four or five screws and you're in business.

First conclusion: This is not a software fixable problem. If your notebook is still in warranty, I suggest you to RMA it. No doubt somethings broken.

If an external monitor works, then the LCD has failed and needs replaced.

i think you need to take your laptop to computer shop for repairing. your system's operating system might be crash so you need to do either recovery or do a fresh installation of opearting system by putting the os cd in your cd/dvd drive.

Sounds like video failure. If your video is integrated as most laptops are, it will require a motherboard replacement.
