Question about Pioneer AVH-P7480DVD Car DVD Player

1 Answer

No Function Screen or Graphics

I recently installed my Pioneer P7480DVD Player after the unit unfortunately sat in a box in my closet for 4 years. Before it was removed from the car that we previously had it in, it was working perfectly. Now that it is installed in this car, it is not.

The DVD player works - I can see/hear movies. The CD player works - I can hear the CD and see the track number. However, there are no other graphics. I cannot see the function menu screen or anything else. If a DVD or CD is not on then the screen is just black. And with a CD it is just blue with the track number, this is not how it is supposed to be. I have tried everything, pushing the RGB does nothing at all. I tried using the video source buttons and it does nothing. I have also tried the reset button on the front panel with no luck.

What could possibly be done to fix this? Does this sound like an installation issue (wires crossed or not plugged in somewhere) or a problem with the radio itself? I just don't understand how the unit could have spontaneously broken while sitting in a box, so why would it not work now?
Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks!

I recently bought, used, is same model and am having the exact same problem with the same abilities. Patrick12345, are you fairly confident that it is the RGB cable? Thanks for posting on this site, this may save me a world of time considering I just spent the last 5 hours trying different mode settings to no avail

You need to check the cable from the brain unit to the display unit. If you need to order a new cable. www, Login as user with out any input. and look up your model number. probably going to be the rgb cable which looks to be around $80

The screen is so dark i can barely make out what is on the screen. i hook up a monitor and that looks fine. my stereo is a pioneer avh-p7480dvd

First I would try pressing the DISPLAY button on your remote which controls the display and if that is not it, it's probably the flex cable. These cables go bad after a while and needs to be replaced. you may also contact Pioneer to see if there is a recall on this part as they may pay for it, otherwise you can purchase it on ebay -

I need help

unfortunately, although the p7480 has the dvd player built in, the decoding, audio and menuing system are built into the brain (8000r/9000r). you can try inserting a disc, but i have never had any success without the main tuner hooked up. the good news is your screen and player are compatible with the 8000r and 9000r, and these can be found on ebay and the like for 50-200 bux or so.

hope this helps,
