My Mazda CX7 keyless remote stopped working suddenly. I parked my car and then 10 minutes later, I went to start it and it wouldn't work. When I press the unlock button on the remote, nothing happens, so I think the car's not recognizing that the remote's there or the signal's suddenly gotten too weak. Is there a battery? What should I do? I'm stuck without a car right now!

Hi All
I really appreciate all the solutions that have been posted. The only concern that I have is that none of the solutions are referring to the 1987 Chrysler Fifth Ave. There is everything from Chev,GMC,Toyota and Honda. Does anyone have a solution for my Fifth Ave? Thanks Tony

Insert your key into the ignition. Turn the key forward until it can go no further, without starting the vehicle.
2
Press and hold the "Valet/Override" button located under the
dash. Hold the button until the blinking LED light on your dash is
solid. Switch your "Valet" button to "Off" if you have a button labeled
"On/Off." Your alarm should now be reset. If you wish to enable the
alarm, repeat these steps to turn the alarm back on.
3
Remove wires from your battery if you wish to temporarily
turn off your alarm. Disconnect the wire connected to the main power
source to permanently disarm your alarm. Trace all wires connected to
your battery and disconnect them. If you have no familiarity with your
vehicle's wiring, you should take your vehicle to a neighborhood
installer to disconnect the wires for you.
2000 Avalon keyless remotes stopped working: solution Both keyless remotes for my 2000 Avalon stopped working. The batteries were good (I checked them with a volt-ohm meter). The Toyota dealer determined that the remote used most was defective and it tried to initialize the receiver in the car. This caused the second remote also not to work. The dealer reset the receiver (reinitialized it after first unplugging it), replaced the defective remote with a new one, and reprogrammed both remotes. Total cost: $225 labor, 164 for new remote. Later, another remote went bad. I just stopped using it.
Possibly the anti theft system. Next time this happens, look for a light on the dash that reads "security", or looks like a car with a lock thru it. If you see either of these lights, then you are experiencing a common and expensive problem on your antitheft system. Tho extremely common on GM vehicles, there are no recalls. This link explains the problem. Compare your symptoms. If the problem is the antitheft, there are ways to bypass and save money.

The remote receiver unit is located in the rear view mirror. This may be faulty. Since the car is new (less than a year?) you still may have the factory warranty.
I had the same problem only a few months after I bought the car new in 2003. Dealer fixed it. Then 6 months later same deal. Finally I went to a 3rd party and ordered new different brand remotes and figured out the programming which was quite simple. A serirs of procedures with the door and the key which programmed the devices. 5 years later no problems. Of course before you do anything try replacing the battery in the remote.
