Try this

Go into Control Panel
Click Switch to Classic View
Double click on Game Controller
Click Add
Find Microsoft Sidewinder (Auto Detect)
Click OK

Also the switch at the bottom on the "single dot" - can't remember if it means digital or analog (seems to remember somewhere someone says it only works in analog mode?! not sure though)

hey m8,

stumbled over your post while searching for sullotions for the same kind of problems.
I also have a perfectly working M$ sidewinder FF pro, trying to get it to work WITH force feedback.
However I am affraid there is no way to do this. From what I read is the gameport to slow to keep up with nowaday PC speeds :(

I got the joystick working up to windows XP (in XP it lost its FF tho and slowed down gameplay sometimes. Not sure if that was caused by the joystick or the game itself running in some compatibility mode). I was using the gameport from an old soundblaster live! by the way.

I did find something that may be usefull for you tho. Check the link below:

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7itprohardware/thread/20fa2ccd-061b-4864-abbd-96d1a9871a2f

I havent tested this yet myself and it will require a creative soundcard but I think it will have a better chance of working that using some converter from gameport to USB.

Make sure you get the latest drivers for your soundcard. The drivers will include the software for the joystick port so its recognized properly by windows. Also you may want to go to the support page for your soundcard to see if any settings would need to be changed as well.

Sidewinder Won't Enable

I uninstalled everything to do with sound etc, removed the sound card (gameport included), cleaned up the registry, installed a new sound card with gameport and it is now working. With a new soundcard, you get up to date drivers and that, I think, was the problem. MSFFP does not like an old Aztech Soundcard. Drivers for the joystick are included in XP and seem to function OK but I doubt whether you will be able to use it in Vista. I have the handbook if anybody wants a scanned copy.

Just loaded flight sim to m/soft vista and have lost the driver disc for sidewinder pricision 2 joystick. Is this unit compatable with vista? If so, can someone direct me to the best free driver download...

Sorry it will not work with vista.

Operating System Requirements: This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:
  • Windows 98
  • Windows 95
Additional Requirements:
  • Windows 95/98
  • Pentium 166 or higher
  • 16MB RAM
  • USB port
  • DirectX 7.0 or later
You can try this also

Usually, Windows will find and automatically install the necessary drivers when you plug your game controller into your computer.
• Plug the game controller into the USB port on the computer. The computer can be turned on when you do this. Windows will recognize the new hardware and set it up to work properly.
Note: Controllers that use game ports (and other ports) are not supported in this version of Windows.
Try this second:

You must be logged on as an administrator to perform these steps.

1. Open Device Manager by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Maintenance, and then clicking Device Manager.‌ If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

2. In Device Manager, locate the device you want to update, and then double-click the device name.

3. Click the Driver tab, and then click Update Driver and follow the instructions.

Drivers Emach T5230

I solved this problem completely later that day.
Here's how:

From the Emachines site I downloaded and installed the file:
RealTek_Audio_5_10_0_5152.

This dirver is for vista but it must also be for XP because it really worked well.

This can be found at www.emachines.com
click on: customer care > product support and downloads.

Then select desktops, T-Series, and T5230.
By clicking the plus sign [+] next to downloads below you will see a list of drivers including:

Realtek High Definition Audio Driver

be sure to click on the Driver File Download (36.29 MB) and not just the readme file.

download this to your computer and run the self extracting install.
Then right click on the MyComputer icon (on your desktop or windows explorer) and choose Hardware tab and Device Manager to verify that the RealTek audio device is working properly.

You'll see the other broken devices there of course.

I went to www.nvidia.com and downloaded:

nvidia is easy to navigate. Just click on Download Drivers

The GeForce 6150SE video card driver

From Option 1 select GeForce, GeForce 6 Series, Windows XP and click the Search button. Then click download now. to save the file to your computer so you can click on it there to perform the driver install. This made a huge difference in the quality of my display.

nForce 430 chipset driver installers

From Option 1 select nForce, nForce 4 Series, GeForce 6150SE/nForce 430, driver, windows XP. Then click search followed by Download Now to save the file to your computer for installation.

This took care of everything but the generic PCI device.
For that, I hooked my legitimate copy of Windows XP to the internet using my newly functional RJ-45 network jack and an ethernet cable and let windows find the driver for me. Which it did seemlessly. No More Yellow questionmarks in the Device Manager!

That was mostly painless.

I noticed that some quicktime programs didn't like my nVidia driver so I created an alternate hardware profile to use the generic windows video driver and that solved that problem too.

I didn't have to open the case on the emachine and I still have the Vista install disk that came with it if I want to go back.

I'm impressed that my games work fine on XP home when the didn't on Vista. I expected it to be the other way arround.

Microsoft's Sidewinder Force Feedback Pro Driver

Sorry to report that there is no driver for this stick that will allow the feedback to work with Win XP. I wanted to cry when I first found this out. I've been searching since the mid 90's for a work around for this. We can send a man to the moon and back on less than 1 meg of ram. But someone can not get this stick to work properly with Win XP?

That REALLY SUCKS!!!
