The proposed solution was to open the corrupted QuarkXPress file in "Show Colours". This didn't work: the document wouldn't load. There isn't an Autosave version of the file: I didn't know about Autosave when the problem occured. I have the corrupted file on a disc.

  • greenhillspa Jul 12, 2008

An expert has recommended the use of Autosave. That's the benefit of hindsight: see my comments.

Quark Doc Xtractor has been recommended, but i can't load it without running Microsoft .NET Framework version 2.0. Would it do my computer any harm to download Microsoft .NET Framework version 2.0?

In Windows open folder with file saved inside.
In folder choose from top menus tools/folder options/ view (tab)
in View chose display hidden file and display system files.
If a temporary files had been saved you can recover it opening it with QE
If there is a temp file it will start with ~ char.

Hi,

From what I gather, trhere is a utility/tool specifically for this purpose; reconstructing/recovering a QuarkXpress 5.0 Bad file format. It is Markztools. Unfortunately, it is not freeware and there is no Demo Version.

However, you can try getting in touch with Robert de Jong (support@markzware.nl) Technical /Training Managerc for Markzware (Europe) bv in the Netherlands and explain your concern or call +31 70 3072977 (in the Netherlands). I was made to understand that "You can send your document to us,
through an attachment to an e-mail. We will try to salvage the document and sent it back to you also through an e-mail attachment."

The original posting is here.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Hi,
This problem usually occurs when you work on a file over the network and your machine crashes. There is one tool that CLAIMS it can repair this. Go to http://www.markzware.com/markztools/ which I haven't tried before, but if you're desperate, then maybe the 189US$ is worth the try.But in the future please try to use the AUTOSAVE option which be really useful..Every lesson is well and learned..HOpe this helps you..Thank you!!...

Helo sir

Auto Backup - The use of Auto Backup is recommended so all work will not be lost. If you have a project that has become damaged, you can revert to a backup version of the project if you have Auto-Backup ON.
NOTE: For more information about Auto Backup, see the tech-notes entitled “Backing Up Projects: UsingBacking Up Projects Using Auto Backup (Windows).”

thank you

How do I convert a QuarkXpress 5 document to QuarkXpress 10?

Quark has a free document converter on their Web site which will convert a QuarkXPress 5 file into a format that can be opened directly by QuarkXPress 10. Basically any QuarkXPress documents older then version 7 can be run through this converter to make them compatible with version 10.

Can't open my QuarkXpress 6.0 Indent shows up but files won't open

Please Navigate to HDD>>Users>>Home User>>Library>>Preferences>>Quark>>QuarkXPress 6.0 folder and delete all the files present in that folder.

Also check if there is any Preferences folder under HDD>>Applications>>QuarkXPress 6.0 folder, if yes then delete that folder as well.

Now launch QuarkXPress and try opening the documents and check if it helps

Want to convert Quark 7.3 file to Quark 4.1 so it can be read by InDesign.

Thats not possible.
QuarkXPress 7 would allow you to downsave to a QuarkXPress 6 document but not to QuarkXPress 4.

you would have to open the document in QuarkXPress 6 then save to version 5, then open the same in QuarkXPress 5 and then downsave to 4

"this document cannot be opened by this version ofQx" (17)

As time goes on software applications tend to change enough that an older version produced file is not forward compatible with a new version. For instance some of my MS Office files no longer can be opened by the latestr version of "Word", hence Microsoft issued a plug in that will allow you older "Doc " files to be read by the latest version of "Word", same thing holds tru for FLASH program, every time a new version of FLASH comes out, the older version can not be read by it.
You need a version of QuarkXpress that can read this doc, If you created the original document, the you can go to your version of QuarkXpress to open the document or if possible ask the originator of the document what version they used to create the document.

Quark xpress 6.5 crashing

Try updating Quark first and reopen the document, if the problem persists, remove the preference file - this may have become corrupt.
Often a Quark crash is related to corrupt fonts, or fonts sharing the same id number as others already on the machine. Do you use a font manager such as Suitcase?
