The solution to this problem is available at the knowledge base web site of http://support.lexmark.com.Light flashing on the printer..One of the ink cartridge was defective. When I removed the bad cartridge, the printer worked and the status light went-off! The procedure is as follows:-

Unplug the printer. Move the cartridges to the left by hand. Remove both cartridges. Try to print without the cartridges by powering up the printer. Reinstall the good ink cartridge.

    It worked!.

I had the same problem. The solution was simple. Replace the old ink cartridges with new Lexmark ink cartridges. DO NOT use cheaper cartridges or get yours refilled. The hardware on the new cartridges (small electronic circuits built into each one) "talks" to the software (printer driver) on your computer. If your cartridges are empty or old because you don't print very often, the status light will blink telling you that the cartridges need replacing.

Sounds like a possible bad printer driver install. can you reinstall the drivers or try a different usb port?

Can no longer print

The flashing light could indicate either a communication problem between one of your cartridges and the printer, a short in one of the cartridges, paper jam or the cartridge carrier has stalled. Please follow the steps below to fix the problem:
  1. Remove the sheets of paper from the feeder. Make sure there are no foreign objects or debris in the feeder.
  2. Open the printer cover and remove both the cartridges.
  3. While the cover is open, ensure there are no paper jams and the cartridge carrier is free from obstructions.
  4. Close the printer cover.
  5. Re-brick your printer. Pull out the power supply, black box where the power cord is plugged in at the back of the printer, and put it back after 30 seconds.
  6. When the printer turns on, reinsert one cartridge first.
  7. Close the printer cover and check the light status.
  8. If light on printer is normal, open the printer cover and reinsert the other cartridge. Check the light status.
  9. Replace whichever cartridge is causing the light to flash with a new cartridge. You can also try to insert a different known working cartridge to determine if the other is faulty.
  10. Load some paper. Try to print a document again to verify that the problem is fixed.

The "on-off" light is flashing steadly... while

The flashing light could either indicate a cartridge problem or the printer carrier has stalled.
Test the cartridges one by one and do the printer hardware test (refer to the relevant document for your printer) to establish which one is defective. The defective cartridge needs to be changed. To do the hardware test, follow the steps below:
  1. Switch the printer off.
  2. Put one sheet of paper into the paper feeder.
  3. Press and hold the power button and the paper feed button for three seconds until the power light comes on.
  4. Release both buttons. After three seconds, the printer will start to print. You should obtain a page containing a series of horizontal color lines, and a thick black line below these. All the lines should be solid.
  5. When the test is complete, switch off the printer. NOTE: If you do not turn off the printer, it will keep on printing this page.
To check if you have a cartridge carrier stall, follow steps below:
  1. First unplug the printer.
  2. Move the cartridges to the left by hand. In order to do this, you need to grip the top of the carrier belt (a black/grey belt with cog-like teeth) and pull it towards the right-hand side of the printer.
  3. Once the cartridges have been moved across, you can clip them out.
  4. Try to print without the cartridges in the carrier.
  5. If you no longer have a carrier stall, put the cartridges back into the carrier and clip them into place.
Try to print a document to check if printer is working properly now.
If problem continues, please contact Lexmark Technical Support Center for additional assistance.

Lexmark x75 all in one. Started with communications device error. could not print. went through troubleshooting-still wouldn't print. started printing randomly(not initiated by me). Couldn't clear print...

Hi. That's quite a problem you have there. Have your attention first on the power supply. It does get hot but it's unusual if it gets very hot. Take out the power supply (the black box behind the printer where the power cord is attached). Check the power specifications. Most of the Lexmark power supply has input ranging from 120-240 Volts and an output of 30 Volts. Make sure you're plugging it in the right voltage range. Check if you're using power surge protectors or power strip, disconnect it and plug directly into a properly grounded wall outlet. Power surge protectors can also draw power away from the printer. When everything's well, try printing again. Hope this helps.

Lexmark x75 printer/scanner

This printer/scanner, hooks up to the computer via USB. The USB cable goes into the back of the printer on the right hand side (opposite side from the power supply). The status blinking could indicate either; 1. No paper 2. No or very little, ink.
