56hm66 I have a shaded strip across the top of my screen. I read different solutions to this online and decided to pull the screen off to see if this is something I could fix myself. Well that wasn't going to happen, and when I put the screen back together, the picture is distorted like I warped the screen.

Sounds like COF (Chip On Film) strip fault. Check this link for more details. There is illustrations [screenshots] and reasons to plasma displays. Check it out, and compare them with your TVs fault. Pull up older posts there.
What I do is buy broken TV's on ebay of the model I need (very cheap) and strip for parts.
Sometimes it takes a few weeks before the model I need show up, but it usually does. If it is very urgent you should be ale to order it through any Toshiba Service center.
Hope it helps.
it's a faulty light engine. Toshiba usually does replaces those for free because they sold with a faulty part. Had mine replaced for free last year. Check your serial number on this page:
Your camera is faulty. It should be taken to an authorized repair centre for a repair estimate. Very few digital cameras have any user-serviceable parts. Please rate our solutions and if you still have problems please call back for more ideas to help you

Hello I cannot help you brighten the screen but I have a similar problem with my camera when I tape graduations and ball games. I have come up with a solution for me that can work for you as well. What I did was I made a small shade to put over it that works like an umbrella and makes it easy to read. See below \/
side view ------------------------- ---------------------------- } l l----Radio---------l l } l l } Shade ---->l l
If done so that the top and sides cast shade on the radio, you can clearly see the screen even in the sun.
I had the same problem on my tv found a simple solution its been a week and no problems so far.pull out light engine you will find round piece of tape pull it of there will be a #2 phillips screw in about 3 inches turn it clockwise and watch it vanish.i turned mine a little further to assure it would be gone.only took a couple of minutes to do dont know how long it will last though good luck
