Question about Toshiba 56HM66 56" Projection HDTV

1 Answer

56hm66 I have a shaded strip across the top of my screen. I read different solutions to this online and decided to pull the screen off to see if this is something I could fix myself. Well that wasn't going to happen, and when I put the screen back together, the picture is distorted like I warped the screen.

I have a shadow running across the top of my toshiba dlp 56hm66 the full width of the screen. It appears to be widening as time passes, it is almost 2 years old now. The shadow is streches down 5-6 inches from the top of the screen.

I seem to remember this issue in their sets, might want to spend some time with the model number and search "problems" as I have seen this in one of these before---several thousand sets ago.

I have red bars of different widths running horizontally across the screen.

Hi You have a ground loop problem. Rolling shaded bars are the classic sign of a ground loop. Your TV & AV gear are likely not on the same
ground level as the input cable line. The cable line is likely floating
to a different ground. But this is not hard to fix.

What I do is buy broken TV's on ebay of the model I need (very cheap) and strip for parts.
Sometimes it takes a few weeks before the model I need show up, but it usually does. If it is very urgent you should be ale to order it through any Toshiba Service center.
Hope it helps.

Thin shade on top of screen on the toshiba

it's a faulty light engine. Toshiba usually does replaces those for free because they sold with a faulty part. Had mine replaced for free last year. Check your serial number on this page:

...and if it checks out, give them a call!

I need to remove screen protector on my hitachi 65" big screen tv

There is a black plastic strip that fits into the groove at the top of the frame holding the protector and front screen. Pull that down and out (you might need to pry a little to get it started). The attached picture shows the strip partially pulled out at the right edge (photo depicts the top right of a 58K - with a wood cabinet).
Once this strip is removed, you should be able to see a gap (~2mm) between the top of the protector and the frame. Pull the middle of the protector toward you (you may need to hook it with something like a chrochet hook to get it out to where you can get a finger on it). Pull out one side of the protector, then work it loose fromt he bottom. (If it is stubborn, you may have to loosen the bottom frame. Take of the speaker grill, then unscrew the screw on the bottom of the surround for the control panel and pop the surround out. Then there are 3 screws that hold the cabinet frame {might me different for the 58B} and beneath that, 3 screws that hold the bottom of the inside frame. Once those are removed, you should be able to flex the inside frame enough to loosen the protector.)

Installation is the reverse. There are two grooves (at least on my set), and the protector goes in the rear groove(!) (same as the screen itself - first time I tried to put it in the unused groove closer to the front of the screen, and that iddn't work). The black plastic retainer strip goes in the front groove.

Discolored strips across top of screen.

If they are pink or blue stripes, I have seen this before. I hope the TV is less than two years old, because the optical block has to be replaced. The optical block has a two year warranty on the part, but you will have to pay labor. Just to double check, make sure you can see it on all inputs and also that it shows up on the menu and on screen display. If yes to all of these, it's the optical block and no adjustments will help. Be sure to rate this solution. Thanks!

Gray faded look on top to picture

It can be the anty polarizing plastic screen that protects the display.

Often it causes grey or reddish shadows, in that case must be replaced.
