Wouldn't touch it with a hammer becaus you risk damaging the magnet on the regulator walls. It's a pain but unscrew the glass from the support and slide the glass up and take the motor apart. Toke mine apart and found it was seezed with the greese and regulator gear pieces. Swapped the plastic gear holders for medal ones and it works fine and saved me 60$. Good luck
If the motor is going bad, usually if you can give the motor a good tap with a hammer or with an extension and a hammer the motor will start working for a little while. NOT A FIX, but good to get window up or to access bolts. If that doesn't work I'd take a look at the wiring or switch.

If the window motor runs then perhaps the window channels need lube, get a can of silicone spray lube and apply to both window channels until it drips out the door bottom and then retry, if no change replace the regulator.

sounds like bad regulator, pull your door panel apart and it is the part that goes onto the motor. long bow shaped thing with cable attached. pop out rivets, (I think 3 rivets) and on the upper side there are 2 nuts that have to be removed. then wiggle it around till you can get it out of the biggest hole in door. Good Luck.

You must detrim the tailgate and then remove the glass and then the entire regulator assembly must be pulled to change out the motor.

I assume your motor is out? These old suburbans will get to where the switch that wont let you roll them down when they are open sometimes is the problem, also the switch, and the switch you use with the key in the tailgate itself, also fuse, The motors also have an overload protecter that is not making contact from corrosion. I have many times been able to beat on the inside door panel while holding the switch and made them start working again, But back to you question, remove interior covering, usually screws and plastic clips, then locate the motor, look and see if you can detach the regulator from the glass. If you can unbolt them. I have had this problem many years ago, but I can't remember exacty how the regulator in in the tailgate, it may be riveted, or it may be bolted. I am assuming you have made sure with test light or vom the motor is getting power, IF it is try applying power to it and tapping it with a wrench or something. It might make it start working. I offer free advice for everyone and will help anyway I can so if this info is helpful in any way, my compensation is my rating.

I have a 92 4Runner and I had same problem, went to a used lot and got the motor for $75 then it happened again almost a year later and my mechanic took all the panelling off, I went and got another motor yet it still wouldn't work, so wasn't the motor. I went back to yard where they put the switch in that controls it for $15. and thats what it was, and a lot simpler & cheaper to start from there first!
