Re: laptop won't turn on
As per the description you gave , there could be 2 points of failure on your system.
1 That the memory modules are not working correctly
2. The motherboard is faulty.

if the battery LED blinks orange, most likely there is a problem with the battery itself. Try to remove the battery and have the power cable connected to it. If there is no battery LED blinking, call Dell to replace the battery itself..
It is the battery Status indicator and flasing orange light indicates that battery is low. After connecting the charger it should turn solid green, which indicates that the battery is charging and it turns off when battery is charged completely. If it continously blinks, check out the charger and battery.

I have the dell inspiron 5160 works great a little slow but no big deal. The problem I have as of Monday the power cord will not stay in and now will not charge. Is it the power port? Can this be fixed?
Try this: remove your battery, unplug power, press and hold power button for at least 20 seconds, plug power cord back in but not the battery, press power and see if you get normal boot. If this is the case, your battery probably needs replaced.
ok well there is somwhere to start i would see if you can get it to take a charge ok and if it does than try to start it without the ac power on and see what it does if it wont take a charge your battery may be bad or your charging circuit may not be connected correctly ok lrt me know best regards mike
This could be a bad memory chip or slot problem. remove the memory and try one chip at a time in each slot. If this doesn't work then the problem will most likely be in the power management system on the motherboard. This will require professional diagnosing in order to track down the exact problem component.
The blinking orange battery light generally indicates that the battery isn't working properly, usually going out and not charging properly. In this case, since the adapter will not power the machine without the battery, and it should, I'm going to say that the adapter is going out and not getting the proper amount of power to the system. Try replacing the adapter. Be sure to replace it with a Dell replacement, the Targus brand universal adapters do not work well with Dell machines, and in most cases won't work at all.
