Question about Kenmore Sewing Machines

1 Answer

Availability of needles

My wife has a Kenmore sewing machine: model 148 15600;  serial number: 72242
Can a person still get needles needed for this machine or are there generic needles being used? The machine, we're guessing, is at least 25 years old.

Practically every machine made in the last 50 years uses a 15x1 needle also known as 130/705 universal fit.

Older kenmore sewing maching in desk.

The model number will be on the compliance plate that has the power rating, serial no. etc.

The number you need is immediately after V

So it might read something like:

1234321 / 45654 / V9876

So the model would be 9876

Janome make Kenmore, so ask your local dealer if they could find out the equivalent part for you.........perhaps arrange to take it to the workshop.

Also, many Service centres will have 2nd hand parts from deceased machines, worth a few phone calls once you have the model nailed down, although there are only so many variants to basic components like needle plate, bobbin or foot control.

Without seeing the machine that is the best advice I can offer, hope you have success.
