F:\ is not accessible. The file or directory is currupted and unreadable.

LaCie 250 GB Hard DriveF:\ is not accessible. The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable.
Orange light is on. Running XP. Right clicking eventually brings me back to the message in the subject title above. Chosing Properties shows 0 Capacity, and says the file system is RAW. Right clicked Properties - Error Checking and selected Error Checking - but the check now does nothing. Hard drive doesn't seem to see the command
This drive has a twin with different content which is working fine. Tried switching cables and power with the twin drive - but the problem stayed with the F:\ drive. Will appreciate any suggestions or insights. Thanks.

Hve the same problem. My files keep disappearing. The weird thing is that when I type the name of the file in the address field; it shows me the entire file with all the contents.

My problem is that I have more than 2000 folders (music) and do not know each and every one by name.

Hey, I am sorry to hear that you also have encountered hard disk data loss troubles due to RAW file system error. Honestly, about several moths ago, I had also got the same external hard disk RAW format drive problem and was not allowed to access anything inside this drive without any format.
But, fortunately, after reading some related data recovery articles and tried several RAW drive data recovery software, many of my original RAW drive contents were restored back.

When turned on LAcie hard disk is noisy, then asks formatting

Please try it on another computer. It seems to be a hardware issue with the drive in case you are hearing a noise coming from it. In case it is under warranty, please get it replaced ASAP.

Will erasing my LaCie ext HD impact any files on my Mac Book?

It will only effect thoes stores on the external harddrive. You will have to check the contents of the LaCie drive and see if it has any files you typically access from your Mac Book. Other then that no it will not effect files stored on your Mac Books drive.

Lacie extern. hard drive is recognized, but I can't access files

Try connecting the Lacie to another computer, if it doesn't work then the hard disk may need to be formatted using Disk Manager. I suggest you format as a primary partition in FAT32.
If it doesn't work then it is possible that the hard drive in the Lacie has failed.
To test the hard drive, remove it and connect it to an USB hard drive adapter and connect it to a working computer's USB port. If it deosn't detect it as an external drive and you connot open folders and files then it is faulty.
You can install a new hard drive in the Lacie and then format in FAT32
There are companies that can recover data from faulty hard drives BUT it will cost you an arm and a leg for their services.
