SOURCE: PS3 access problems to media server on wrt350n
I believe a simple solution to this beings with assigning a static IP address to the PS3
IF your router is 192.168.1.1 and
your subnet mask is 255.255.255.0
and your DHCP range is 192.168.1.100 for
50 licenses to 192.168.149
The address your PS3 between 192.168.1.2 and 192.168.1.99
Configure you PS3
IP address192.168.1.3
Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway 192.168.1.1
DNS Address 192.168.1.1
(for the above DNS address to work you must have loaded the ISP assigned IP addresses into the router which you probably have alrready done.
Let me know if this does not work. I will respond to messages here until we resolve the issue.
Then on you router your DMZ address should be set to 192.168.1.3 (your PS3's IP Address)

If I understand correctly ... You have not connected the drive to a computer.
If I am not mistaken the WD My Book has preinstalled backup software installed on it. It very well might also have a power down built as part of that programming. Try attaching it to a computer to verify this.
Assuming the backup software needs blank drive to work correctly I would first access the drive select all and delete anything you find (if you know how to unhide hidden files do that before you select and delete all) ... As a 2nd option I would just reformat the drive.
Hope that helps....
