Browser problems with win98

I am having problems with ie being very slow as well as problems sending attachments in my e-mails. I use Yahoo, Hotmail and Peoplepc. I have downloaded other browsers only to get DLL messages when the downloads complete. I also cannot download certain screensavers as I get missing DLL error messages. What can I do?

Your operating system is corrupted it seems. You could pay for someone to fix the DLL errors, but I prefer to reinstall the operating system personally, since it helps restore the system to a like-new condition. Computer repair can be expensive and time consuming.

I am new to Yahoo and I cannot seem to attach anything. It just sits there saying that it needs time. I never had this problem with Comcast. What do I need to do t resolve it?

Yahoo Mail is a Web-based email program that is provided for free by Yahoo.
Anyone can sign up for the service to send and receive emails from friends and family.
Yahoo places restrictions on the size and type of attachments that can be sent and received when using Yahoo Mail.
Any email attachment that contains a virus, is too large or doesn't meet the file type requirements may be blocked by Yahoo.
Virus Scanner

Yahoo Mail scans each attachment that arrives or departs from your inbox with Norton AntiVirus.
If the virus scanning software detects a virus within an attachment, Yahoo will warn you and attempt to clean it.
Yahoo does not promise that every virus will be detected or cleaned by the Norton AntiVirus software.
Only accept attachments from people you know and trust.
Don't attempt to open blocked attachments if it is known to harbor a virus.
Large Attachments
Attachments exceeding 25 megabytes will not attach to an email.
Multiple attachments that exceed 25 megabytes will also be blocked by Yahoo Mail.
Once your attachments reach 25 megabytes, you will no longer be able to add any additional attachments.
If you have many attachments to send that exceed 25 megabytes, send several emails to send all of the attachments.
If you are receiving attachments, let the sender know that you are unable to receive any attachments larger than 25 megabytes.
Slow Connection Speed
It may appear that Yahoo is blocking your attachments if you have a slow dial-up connection because they may never appear to load.
Yahoo isn't actually blocking the attachment, the connection is just very slow.
A 25 megabyte file could take over an hour to download with a 56K dial-up connection.
Your computer may go to sleep or the download may be even slower if you surf the Web while your files upload.
File Type
Only certain file types can be sent using Yahoo Mail.
Yahoo Mail allows you to add audio files, images, HTML files, word processing documents, spreadsheets and many other types of files as attachments.
Some documents are not supported, but you can send unsupported file types by renaming them, including them in a RAR or ZIP archive, creating a Word document with the file, sending the file through Yahoo Messenger or you can upload the file elsewhere and send a link to the file via email.

Probable solutions to Hotmail email access problems

  • Verify the internet connection - Is it indeed working? Try loading other web sites like Yahoo.com.
  • Delete the temporary internet files / cache of the browser. You can do this through the tools and settings section.
  • Change the HTTP settings - please refer Hotmail sign in problem for details.
  • Use a different browser - I suggest downloading and installing Google Chrome.
  • Your account may be blocked. Hotmail suspects you may be using the account to send spam and hence disables access to it. Please contact the Hotmail support staff or wait for a day and check again.
  • If you are running Windows XP or Windows Vista, download and install Windows Live Mail email program - please refer that link for step by step instructions. You then need to set up your Hotmail account - for screenshots and walkthrough read Windows Live Mail settings for Hotmail accounts.
This is a lengthy process, no doubts; but has many advantages. You maintain a copy of the emails on your local computer which protects against accidental online deletions and account hacking and you can access your emails even without an active internet connection.

Sir, Madam, Ms. I would dearly like to use MS Word in my Yahoo! Mail. Would you please advise? Glad thanx in advance John Spencer Pattaya, Thailand Retired in this most glorified of old...

You don't need any word processors ie MS Word..etc to write your mail when you are using Yahoo Mail or Gmail..hotmail..etc. You just have to register an account with Yahoo mail and use the built-in word processor to write you mail. Here a guide using Yahoo Mail -> LINK

If you have written any documents with MS word and wish to sent to a third party you just attached your file to your mail ie documents and send it.

Hope it helps, jolly glorified fella living & enjoying life to the fullest!!! -> Have a nice day :-)

Is it possible to sign to LIVE Messenger when I have a yahoo e-mail address or if I have Gmail account?

You need a microsoft LIVE account to log into messenger (live or hotmail)
IE is the best browser to use with hotmail, it will auto resize your photos when you attach them to an email.
Chrome is the best with Gmail, this does the same
If you where to use a hotmail account with chrome or firefox then it would not resize your photos or enable you to upload lots of photos at once

When I send some messages they are taking a while to send. Not all are doing this but a lot are. This has been going on for about 3 days

Does the problem occur while using a different browser (i.e. Google Chrome, Firefox, Safari)?

If not, the problem is most likely related to IE.

Alternatively, if the problem occurs while using one of the above mentioned browsers, it's probably local to that browser instead.

Try updating the browser to its most recent version. That option is usually available within the Tools or Help options in the top menu bar of the browser.

If that doesn't fix the problem, there might be an issue with the plugin (Flash, Java, etc.) that allows Yahoo! email to run in the browser.

Try updating any obvious plugins similar to those I just mentioned.

I also recommend updating Windows, just in case.

If you have an account with a different e-mail service like Hotmail or Google, try sending a message from that account and see if the behavior persists.

Hope this helps!

Lately I am having issues with Yahoo e-mail. It has become unresponsive or sends me errors like #5 or #999 or simply hangs. I'd rather get my e-mail than those politely worded apologies that I eventually...

Regrettably, Yahoo! Mail has deteriorated in my personal experience as well, on both Windows XP and Mac OS X operating systems, and in IE and Firefox browsers. The problem is that the new Yahoo! Mail is a fairly complex application with a lot of programming code that must be run by the Web browser (known as DHTML or browser Javascript). This code provides the all the fancy drag & drop functionality, etc. The display advertising within Y! Mail appears to make matters worse, especially if these graphical ads contain animation and are rendered with the Flash plug-in. When this happens, the browser is executing both DHTML and Flash programming code, and slowing down further, or introducing more bugs.
You may wish to try gmail (google's email). You will find many Yahoo employees admitting that they prefer Google's gmail for their own personal use.
