If you really want to? But we can do a touchscreen only replacement (parts + labor) for $95. It is safer than trying yourself.

Make sure that the ESS ID and security features match the ones on the AP.
Also, from the MC9090, you will need to click on the radio icon, select options and in the top drop down menu, choose regulatory. select the country where you are and uncheck the box named enable 802.11d.
This should have the terminal connected on to the network.
SOURCE: How do I change the sleep timer settings on a Motorola MC9090
A - From the Windows Mobile user interface:
1. Tap Start (the Windows Logo), then Settings.
2. Tap the System tab.
3. Tap the Power icon.
4. Tap the Advanced tab.
You can change the number of minutes before power is turned off when on battery and when on external power from there. You can also uncheck the "Turn off device if not used for" check box to disable the timeout entirely.
B - From the registry (useful for deploying the setting as a .reg file to the device, in case you have many MC9090 guns you are supporting or you are wanting to set it to a value the user interface does not support):
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\Timeouts]
"BattSuspendTimeout"=dword:00000000
"ACSuspendTimeout"=dword:00000000
The above values are in hex and represent the number of seconds before timing out when on battery or AC power. For example, to set the BattSuspendTimeout to 180 seconds, you would set it to dword:000000B4. To disable it entirely (the equivalent of unchecking the checkbox in the user interface), set the value to 0.

The 9090 will continuously reboot when someone has cold booted it and has held the trigger down too long after the cold boot. What it's doing is looking for OS update files in the proper directory to do a system update. When it doesn't find them it just reboots again continuously.
To get out of this, cold boot it again but release the trigger right after you push in the battery.
