I have an HP Pavilion 752n Win XP SP3 with ASUSTeK Computer INC. P4G-LA REV 1.xx motherboard. I am currently running 1.2 GB of memory. I would like to replace the 256MB memory card with another 1GB memory...

The motherboard can support 1GB of memory, Window XP can manage up to 2GB fairly good maybe more with other setting applied. I would recommend using two 512 memory chips to fill the slots to prevent any memory conflict issues.

Constant restarts after upgrading memory to 512 on 300 gateway

The first place i would look -- check the new memory, make sure its the correct type and voltage for your motherboard. Next, check to make sure your ram are both the same speed, voltage , etc. some motherboards are picky about memory types and some require that paired memory be installed.
Reseat (remove and replace) the memory in it's slot, poorly seated memory can cause restarts or no-starts. try these and post again here if you need further assistance.

if its for a server you will defenatly need ECC registered ram, if its not ECC it wont work try this program, it will tell you about your memory. download the program and run it.

I bought from Gateway to double my ram ( 512 to 1024 ) and now my ram has gone back to 512. How can I find out which chips or whatever they are called have gone dead, the original or the newer Gateway?

Turn the power off. Swap out the memory cards putting one bank of memory in at a time. If the computer doesn't boot up after the swap, chances are that is the bad memory card.

Sdram capacity

its that 512 mb total capacity for your computer memory?? if so read this:
To find the total amount of RAM that can be added , subtract the amount of RAM currently in the computer from the maximum amount of memory the computer can hold. For example, a computer has 256 MB of RAM. If the maximum amount of memory the computer can hold is 512 MB, then 256 MB is the amount of RAM that can be added. this info from the HP website , to find out more , go to http://www.hp.com/support , enter the model number , and look for more information about your computer specs, hope this helps , please rate & thanks AJ
