Question about Dishwashers

1 Answer

Beaumark Whisperwash portable dishwasher has pile of macerated food scraps behind screen at bottom rear of machine. Dishes have "grit" stuck to them after cycle complete. Think the built-in garberator may be plugged but don't know how to get at it or to clean under screen. Should we take it in for repair?

That screen is held in place by two screws. Remove the screws, pull out the screen, clean it and put it back. You should perform this cleaning periodically to keep your dishwasher running perfectly.

Dishwasher leaves upper rack dishes dirty. It's Whirlpool Quiet Partner II

Your water pressure is not high enough in the dishwasher to wash the dishes on the top rack. The most common reason is that the pump in your dishwasher cannot pump fast enough to keep the water pressure up. That is because the shaft that drives the pump impeller also drives the macerator cutter that grinds up bits of food fine enough for it to pass through the screen and out to the drain. Over time, small bits of bone, broken glass, eggshell, and other items that are too strong to be cut up by the cutter end up sitting in the area where it has to spin, and they prevent it from spinning fast enough to pump enough water to the top rack with any pressure. It is simple enough to repair. You need to take out the racks, remove the bottom arm and clean out the little macerator. Once that is done, it should work great again.

Dishwasher leaving food on dishes, soap dispenser half full when dishes are finished.

In all probability your pump is clogged. This is a common problem and easily taken care of. However, I don't know your age or physical condition as its a somewhat back braking, knee abusing task. You must remove the screws, washer arm and other visible parts from the inside bottom of your machine. The screen needs to be washed to have the gunk removed and and the food residues picked out of the workings in the bottom of the machine. Could be anything in there, eg. pits, hard food fragments, bone, etc. Its a pain to do so in the future it would be wise to give the dishes a quick rinse under the faucet before putting them in.
Maybe you can get somebody to do it as favor, young relative or such if your not able.
Good Luck!

A grainy grit remains on all my dishes. It's in the bottom of the dishwasher when the cycle is over. what is it and how can i fix it

I took everything apart in the bottom of the dishwasher, washed them and put them back together and now have clean dishes. I needed a star head to remove the screws, which I had. A Phillips screwdriver won't work. Food and gunk were clogging the drains and screens, even the spray wands. For the very bottom I used a shop vac to get all the dirty water out and then cleaned the small drain.

This is a classic sign of too much detergent. Are you only using one tablet? Too low of a washing temperature could also be your culprit. Dishwasher detergent needs to be washed with at least 120 degree water. Check to make sure your supply is hot (if it's plumbed to intersect with your faucet, just check faucet hot water supply temp). I'm not sure why you're running it on a two hour cycle, dishwashers can generally do the job in about 40 minutes. The grit is probably because there are food particles in your food trap. Make sure the food filter beneath the spray arm (if equipped) is clean and check the lowest areas for food scraps.

Dishes do not come out clean?

is the salt container cap damaged or loose? is the rinse aid topped up? if all ok then are you scraping most of the food from the plates, this can cause old food to mush, pulp and leave grit on dishes.

Maytag dishwasher quiet series 400. Dishes have hard stuck on grit and food particles after rinsed and dried.

Very common problem is soap build up in these machines. Try putting it into a wash cycle with no dishes, and no soap. Let it wash for about 5 minutes, and then open the door. If you see alot of soap suds, then soap build up is the problem. Try doing a couple loads with no soap, and no dishes, and throw a cup of vinegar into the machine halfway through the wash. Repeat as necessary. This should solve your problem.

Upper spray arm is not turning round even though water is coming through. We have checked the internal system for blockages and the machine is filling / draining as normal. When a full programme is run,...

I found the problem to be neither blockages of the upper arm or roof spray arm or the upper basket arm hitting the the back of the dishwasher. the problem was that the pump inlet where the food scraps are macerated was blocked with all manner of gunge including small chicken bones plastic and other detritus. Removal of the macerator housing under the upper filter housing using 2 different sizes of torx driver easily fixed the problem. Probably why the upper dish rack cleaning degraded overtime, Directly proportional to the amount of detritus blocking the intake screen behind the macerator.17a8801.jpgb9e8fa8.jpg789f2b8.jpgfb7a626.jpgator.
