The 0x5b error code indicates that the amount of light passing through the aperture lens is not being controlled by the F-Stop selected. error can be fixed. check out quote at www.teleplancamerarepair.com
Another thing that happens when this error is present.
When you raise the camera up to horizontal position and try to take a picture and you get the error code and again it shuts down.Tthe system is being saturated with high light levels indicating the AV drive unit which is not doing its job and controlling the aperture of the lens. This can be fixed.

Usually error codes not 0x5b are lens comunication problems and can be fixed by removing the lens and reattaching and a power reset.
if probleb still persists a service may be required

Error code 0x57 appears after i snap a shot.

I've just solved the problem by firmware update and battery removal for 1 day. I prepared my camera for expensive repair in service: card was formatted, battery removed .. and then in service, when I put the battery back, my camera just worked :) Try it, I hope it will help everyone.

Sony a100 keeps locking up and giving an error cod = 0x57

Try turning the camera off, take the battery out, reinsert it. If that doesn't work, the manual says to contact your local Sony dealer. You might also want to try taking the lens off, making sure nothing is hindering its communication to the camera body. Try using another lens if you have one.

cutemah, Is your cd/dvd internal or usb? Have you tried to login using safemode? When the first Toshiba screen appears press the F8 key. Choose safe mode. Since you say the cd/dvd isn't being recognized that too may be the problem. Try removing the cd/dvd player and see if the machine starts. Is the error code only 0x57 or is there more? It is sounding more hardware related than software related. What program are you using to format the hard drive? Send me a little more information please. Let me know what happens. Good Luck, Tim
