Will extra computer memory be used if the maximum is exceeded?

Windows XP can't use over 2.1 GB of RAM for applications though up to 4 GB can be allocated. The extra RAM is used for the system only. It shouldn't hurt to have extra there.

I HAVE A SHARP ER-A440 CASH REGISTER, AND AM PROGRAMMING THE CASHIERS, IT ACCEPTED THE FIRST 4, BUT WILL NOT GO ANY FURTHER, AND IT IS SUPPOSE TO GO TO 99.

4 Cashiers are standard. Your dealer should have set extra extra cashiers in memory if you needed them. If you want to open more memory, you will need a service key and the memory codes from the dealer manual. If you don't have the dealer programming manual, C-tech collective have it here:
European version: http://the-checkout-tech.com/manuals/cashregisters/Sharp_ER-A440_and_ER-A450_programming_manual.html

I want to purchase 1gb extra RAM for my philips iqon Desktop computer - which one do i need?

One good and easy way to find out for sure how much RAM your can hold is to go to WWW.CRUCIAL.COM and run their SCAN MY COMPUTER feature.

This handy utility will scan your configuration and tell you exactly how much RAM you currently have installed and what type it is.

It will also tell you how many RAM slots are fitted on your motherboard and what the maximum memory capacity is for each slot and the total for that motherboard.

If your computer does have room to add more RAM, it will provide you with specific recommendations as to exactly what type and size of RAM stick to get to maximize the memory capacity and of your computer.

I hope that was helpful to you, good luck.

If you choose to rate this solution using the Thumbs Up scale provided, I thank you very much for your time and consideration.

Powerspec 8650. what type graphics card fits it? computer keeps shutting down while playing certain games on facebook. extra memory hasn't helped, so i think i need to upgrade my graphics card, just am not...

This card is listed for the model below yours.

Graphics Controller
  • Type AGP 4x - Plug-in card
  • Graphics Processor / Vendor NVIDIA GeForce2 MX 200

  • I would be looking for other causes of shut down such as overheating.
Check that all fans are working and clean. Ensure all case openings / grilles are also clear.

If you want to upgrade the vid card you can only get one with AGP 4X
NOT 8X which most are now.

every computer case has an opening and if your motherboard has more slots for ram than one you can buy one for *********** board but make shure it is the same as the one you already have in it.

Some older computers, like mine, have a maximum memory they can handle. This one happens to be 1 gig, but yours may be less. Do you have an older computer? Yup, you do. As seen here, the maximum supported ram is 256. I'm sorry. Please rate.

I have bought a HP550 laptop product code FS328AA. I also bought an extra Kingston 2GB RAM. When I put the extra memory I get the srceen of death. What is wrong?

this means either the memory is corrupt, which is possible even with new units especially if you weren't careful when installing. Or, the memory is the wrong speed. What did you buy 1 2gb?

Presario.Message says memory full.Nothing opens up

yes defragging is found on the accesories menu in system tools, but your cache memory is full because of all the programmes taking up the memory, you need to install more memory.

Run this tool to tell you whats fitted and what type to buy, it's very easy to fit more memory and will speed up your system also, it's cheap, and if you take it to a shop to fit they will charge around £15.00/$30.00 to fit it when it's easily done, take the side off and look for the memory strip and there will probably be a spare socket to fit another one or remove current memory and replace with a larger amount

hmmm..then can you remove the extra memory, or at least open the case, and reseat it? That's most likely what's causing the problem.
