Question about Maytag Washing Machines

1 Answer

I own a Maytag Performa 4 Speed/24 cycle Washing machine. it is 4 years old. Problem: A very LOUD grinding sound when washer engages into wash, rinse, spin cycles. The Tub does agitate - but I don't know that it agitates to it's capacity - also - rinse and spin do not completly drain the water, I have to run the spin a second time.

agitator seems loose inside drum and will not completely empty on spin cycle

Clean washer cycle previously has run ok for six years. Suddenly skips from wash with 55 minutes remaining to spin with 2 minutes remaining. It doesn't rinse at all and misses all of the time in between.

Wash cycles are "off", meaning at start of the cycle when just water should be going in, the agitator is already moving. Machine skips the rinse cycle and spins out

Sounds like you have a tub seal problem, which took out the bearings, I take it one buzy mom does lots of laundry! Maybe time for a new washer.

SOURCE: Maytag MAV 9600 grinding noise/no agitation. Tub

I had a problem similar to this. There was a bobbie (?) pin stuck in the pump. Google how to take the front off and then disassemble the pump. (It will be on the bottom right side in the front of the machine). Pretty simple. Took about an hour and a half.

Maytag performa washer during spin cycle tub is making loud banging noise and continues even when clothes are evenly distributed

This sounds like the transmission is going. Better get another washing machine other than a Performa.

It appears Maytag no longer produces the type of quality product we have purchased since 1970... we've owned three Maytag Washers - our last "performa" is a piece of ****!

Maytag Performa top loader is making grinding noises

The agitators are a pop-on fit. Make sure that the agitator is firmly seated on the shaft. Lift it up and if it moves easily adjust it to the splines on the shaft and press it back into place.

Maytag performa washer grinding noise

Sounds like the water pump is going out on it. The part runs about $80 and should only take about 45 minutes to install.

Maytag Performa - Loud Noises during Spin Cycle

This washer is JUNK!!!!!! We have the same washer (2 1/2 years old) and same problem. Tried to replace the bearing myself, no luck. So I called a repair man to come out and look at it. As soon as i told him the model number, they would'nt even come out. Very common problem for this washer. We are on our way to Sears to purchase a Kenmore.....GOOD LUCK

Maytag Centennial: Not starting, maybe lid lock issue? How to install new magnetic lid latch? then is replacing lid lock next or could it be something entirely different? Help, please, and THANK YOU! I have a Maytag Centennial washer MVWC450XW3 that quit working last week. In hindsight, I could see that there had been a history of "stuff" going on with the washer, all around the lid lock;i.e. - last time it worked I had to select a couple of different cycles before it finally started. SO Far, I have tried to get the diagnostic codes but failed a bit at that. I THINK that I was getting an F5E1 error. I was however at least able to access the diagnostic menu, and notice TWO things: No matter what, the Lid Locked LED never comes on, ever. Next thing I notice is when I do a short cycle diagnostically, it never agitates or spins. It fills various temp water, does not agitate, then it seems to suck the water back out. IN the end, I ordered just the magnetic part of the lid lock (the part that is actually on the lid) because I could see mine was rusted all the way away, but am not too sure how to put it on. Therefore I just put it in the slot where it would go if I had installed it. Incidentally II asked my ma if she had noticed anything going on with the washer and she said No at first but then with prompting (she's 81) allowed that she had indeed noticed something wrong with the lid shutting so she had cleaned out that "little hole"{ very well and oiled it to make sure it was working. So again my two main questions are: How to install the lid latch, do I need to take out all of the screws around the glass? and Should I next move on to buying a lid lock part or could it be something entirely different?
