It plays audio CDs without any problem, so its not dust on the lens

  • albo513 Jul 14, 2008

It is over a year old, so the warranty is not an option, obviously throwing it away does not really solve the problem.

  • albo513 Jul 14, 2008

Is that something you can do? If so what is the cost please?

Its just an issue with the type of DVD's you use. Sometimes this happens..It appears that sometimes if the RDc (region decodin code is not properly recorded, you would get this issue. Do you get this issue with any DVD you try to play?

You might want to still use a cleaner. DVD's have a smaller track to read then CD's thats why they hold a lot more data. I would give that a shot first. Unfortunately that brand of player is considered "throw-away" if it is under a year old you can get it fixed under the factory warranty. If its not under warranty. I'm sure a comparable replacement can be gotten for less then 50$
thanks,
Lee

Sometimes throwing it away though is th best economical solution even if it doesn't solve the "problem". I don't know how much money your time is worth but by the time you get done fixing it you will have spent more time then the dvd player is worth. Like I said a comparable replacement is very cheap.
    Thanks,
    Lee

Try using a CD-Lens cleaner since the player wasn't used dust might have got into the lens.

When trying to play a computer generated DVD +R DL, I get a message that says this type of disc cannont be played. please insert a different disc

The disc is probably an incompatible format for this model player. Even if the disc is finalised in your PC, or in a DVD recorder, this player may still be unable to read it. Some DVD recorder/players do not recognise DVD+R (or +R DL) media, while others won't recognise +/-RW discs (except CD-RW); this is a model limitation - not a fault with either your player, the PC burning software or the discs themselves.

Nothing can be done to fix this except purchasing a model which accepts multimedia (+R/DVD-RAM etc). The question is, does your player play ANY normal DVDs? I am guessing your player will accept DVD-R DL discs just fine since this is standard as well as proper shop-bought movies.

My samsung dvd player will not play dvds, but it

Are you trying to playing recordable DVDs (DVD+R or DVD-R) ? if so, try playing original DVDs (the type you rent or buy) those are pressed DVDs - if it works, then your player does not support DVD-R or DVD+R - If you are using a computer burner that supports bitsetting you can change the booktype of a DVD+R to DVD-ROM to fool your player.

If however your player cannot play either DVD-R, DVD+R nor original DVDs and only plays CDs, then your dvd laser diode is finished - there is one for CD and one for DVD, this is rare but happens, there is nothing you can do, any repairs would be very expensive - you are better off getting a new DVD player they are very inexpensive now and any repairs will cost you multiple times a new DVD player.

When trying to play DVDs the words unknown disc title appears. Even after several attempts with various DVDs we havent had any success.

have u tried cleaning the hea of ur dvd player?after using a dvd player or cd player for long times of continous play say 6 months or if u play too many scratched discs and u dont clean the head of the player it starts skipping the disc or many a times dosnt recognise the disc so it'll give u errors like "Unknown Disc", "Disk Error" etc so i would really recommend u to clean its head using a dvd head cleaner cd.. its easily available in the video stores or malls.. u can purchase any dvd head cleaner cuz there are number of manufatcures for this. im sure this would solve ur issue.
PLEASE DO RATE ME,WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE IT
