THE HOME POSITION SENSOR OR CARRAIGE ENCODER MOTOR IS BAD. IF UNDER WARRANTY, CONTACT DELL FOR REPAIR/REPLACEMENT. IF NO, A NEW ONE AT SUPERWAREHOUSE.COM IS MORE ECONOMICAL THAN A REPAIR. THANKS

I HAVE THE DELL 924 - IT KEEPS SAYING CLEAR CARRIER JAM AND MAKING A WEIRD POPPING NOISE BUT THERE'S NOTHING BLOCKING IT WHAT CAN I DO - HELP ME PLEASE ASAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The encoder strip might be lose or dirty. Look inside and see if you can see it. Try cleaning it off with lightly moist soft cloth (like a T-shirt). But be careful cause if you break it, you really can't replace it from what I've read

It says clear the carrier jam and press arrow to continue. There is nothing to clear. It makes a loud noise when you press start? It it worth taking it somewhere to be fixed?

No, might as well buy a new one rather than have it fixed. You can try cleaning the encoder strip. It's a clear plastic strip that runs though the printer cartridges. I clean mine with a light alcohol on an old T-shirt (or other soft cloth). clean one side then move it to the other and clean that side. But be easy, the encoder strip is a pain to put back on if you pull it off (and it does come off easy).

Dell 942 carrier jam loud banging

you going to have to replace the carriage ASSY. That sound means the carriage is offline and it needs repair or you got something blocking or jammed in the printer so good that its doing this.

Diag : bad carriage or severe carriage jam

Dell AIO 924 Carrier Jam Problem

To clean the encoder strip, perform the following steps:
  1. Power down the printer and unplug the power.

  2. Lift the cover on the printer.

  3. Using a dry, lint free cloth, pinch the encoder strip on the right-hand side of the cartridge carriage and pull your fingers across it toward the right-hand side of the printer99d8177.jpg

  1. Plug in the printer and power it on.

  2. Open the cover to allow the cartridge carriage to center itself.

  3. Using a dry, lint free cloth, pinch the encoder strip on the left-hand side of the cartridge carriage and pull your fingers across it towards the left-hand side of the printer. 43e0b19.jpg

Carrier jam

i had the same problem and i'm almost positive it's because i do not have a color ink cartridge in my printer. i called the technical support and they said that both ink cartridges have to be in the carrier for the printer to work. even if one of them does not have ink in it. hope this helps. (for me too)

Carrier jam on dell 924 printer??

I was able to fix this issue on my all-in-one 944 printer. What happened was that one of the ink cartridge lids had popped open. The hard part was that the carrier was stuck on the far left side, and I wasn't able to pull it over for easer access. However, I was able to fit a finger in and push the cartridge back down. Then when I turned the printer back on the error went away.

Hope this helps
