Is it a heater that keeps turning on/off?

check your filter, it could be dirty.
clean the cartridges, or backwash: Sand or DE?
If DE, you may need to do a complete breakdown and cleanse?

There is a flow switch in the heater, that monitors correct/proper amount of water flow. If you are near that cutoff point, the heater will turn off.

You need to turn the knob on the gas valve (inside the heater) to the "pilot" position. Then, while holding a flame over the pilot assembly push down on the knob.

Gas should come out of the pilot and ignite. Continue holding the knob down for 10-15 seconds. Release the knob and the pilot should stay lit. If not the pilot generator may need to be replaced.

Turn the knob to the "on" position, close the heater and turn the heater on and turn the thermostat to hot. The heater should fire. If it does not fire and the pilot goes out, that may also indicate a pilot generator problem.

If water heater is leaking out of a hole, then tank is rusted out and needs to be replaced.

First thing is protect yourself.
Tank could rupture.
Turn off power
-Electric heater: turn off circuit breaker
-Gas heater: turn knob from ON to pilot, so pilot light stays lit.
Open bathtub spout on hot side and release pressure.

Now you're save.
When you need hot water, turn heater on for 1 hour, use hot water, then turn heater off again.

You can limp along like this for a while until heater is replaced.

I buy water heaters at Lowes, Ace, Home Depot, Sears.
Look for scratch and dent.
Look for same size that you have now.
manufactured homes require heater that is made for that application.
Propane and natural gas heaters have different burner.

Always offer 10% less than asking price on any water heater.
You need teflon tape, 10" pipe wrench, new flexible water connectors, and a drip pan, and maybe insulation blanket.

To install electric water heater, open link above because some things are same for both gas and electric.
Difference with electric is there is no gas line, and you connect wires same way that they came off.

you need to pump cheap vinagar through it for 15 min. This means that you need to turn off the power and isolate the water heater from the rest of your plumbing. When you are done you need to flush the heater with water before turning the power back on.

You need to press the child lock button - keep pressing hard on the button until it turns off - takes a few seconds.

fuse blows. unplug heater blower motor turn ignition on, turn heater on, does fuse blow? if not need to replace heater blower motor

ok do you have a electrical cord conected to the heater if yes than you have a electronic heater and you do not have to turn on the pilot. if not than yes you must open the pilot ang ligther just as water heater for you house.

R3 is not one of the actual error codes, but is part of the computer system. What you can try to do is reset the computer in the heater. First you will need to turn the heater off, then turn off the circuit breaker for the heater. Wait about 15 to 20 minutes then reverse the order, the circut breaker then the heater. Try and start the heater and watch the display panel.

If they R3 reappears, then the problem is the control board for the heater and it will need to be replaced.
