Question about GE 20.3 cu. ft. / 575 liter Upright Freezer FUF20DPRWH

Not sure which freezer to buy?

I am wanting to buy a new freezer but not sure which brand and model to buy. Consumer reports is not that credible with me anymore since I bought a new vacuum a Miele and they don't even rate it. But they put Kenmore on the top and I know from personal use they are anywhere near as good as a Miele. I when to Energy Star they have changed their criteria this April and very few of the models they list are still made and the ones that are are not a manual frost. Where does one go to get sold info and reviews for freezers? I am looking for about a 20 cubic foot upright manual frost freezer. Which brand has fewer problems and good warranty and service and works well?

If you want a manual defrost model they are all almost the same.
Manuel defrost is very simple, just compressor and thermostat. No fans or defrost system. The true indication of quality is the energy star rating. Look at the operating cost. The better made ones cost less to operate. Just shop by price and features you want. High temp warning, rapid freeze etc. Normally I would stay clear of the White/Westinghouse garbage(Gibson,Kelvinator, Frigidaire, etc.) in washers and dryers but in refrigeration they aren't too bad. It is really hard to tell anymore who actually makes what. They all seem to be buying each other out. GE sold out and doesn't make their own anymore, Whirlpool bought out Maytag, Jenn air, and Amana. Kenmore/Sears is mostly made by Whirlpool. I have trouble telling things apart anymore.

Hot point chest freezer , inertial fan is running constantly and only the top half of freezer is frozen

I hope the cooling fluid is not leaking out of the system. When the inside is becoming warmer every day, you can be sure it is. Then check what is bas, replacing the cooling aggregate (it is through the whole freezer) or buying a new one. For household freezers it is better and cheaper to buy a new one, because new freezers use less power. When it is now running 24 hours a day, quick replace it.

if the unit still works and looks new i would say knock off about 100 dollars of the price you paid for it and this should be good enough for some who wants it or at least sell it for 200 to 300 dollars

Where to buy compression online

http://www.victory-refrig.com/index.htm
Check out their web site. Has parts lists.
You may not need to buy directly from them. Most of those compressors can be purchased from local HVAC supply houses that sell to the public. Get model and serial and brand off of the compressor and try W.W. Grainger. They do sell some compressors. Also, try Rick, at Restaurant Parts and More. He will need model and serial of the unit, and possibly the compressor. The more info the better. His number is 1-888-814-1110.Talk to Rick only.
Let me know if I can be of any future help.

Kelvinator Chest Freezer will not cool after spray painting rust spot.

Dear Landport2
Welcome to the site,

You said, you have a Kelvinator chest freezer, model number CFS101SM1W. This freezer is in excellent condition and was working ok. I notice that there was a rust spot on the bottom area so I decided to spray paint the entire inside with the appropriate appliance spray paint. After spray painting the freezer will not cool.

How old was your freezer?
This must be an ancient freezer!

And Unfortunately I was not able to tell you to leave it alone and not to turn it off!
You did not cause this!
Unfortunately it was so old that it probably was already on it's last legs.

Here is an interesting report I just read!

Repair or replace your appliances?

When to pull the plug on your old freezer

It nearly always makes sense to undertake simple do-it-yourself repairs,
such as replacing a gasket on a refrigerator or a freezer.

Typically, you'll also find a troubleshooting section for more-serious problems
in the owner's manual.

Should you pay for a repair or buy a new model ?
The answer depends mostly on the age of your ,freezer
how much you bought it for,and the cost of the repair.

Follow these guidelines:

When a repair makes sense.

If your refrigerator is under warranty or less than four years old freezers),
paying for a repair makes sense.
Note that freezer under warranty might require service from a factory-authorized technician;
readers have found them on a par with independent repairers.

When a repair might be a wise choice.

If your freezer is out of warranty and is four to seven years old,
it might make sense to pay for a repair. Customers generally pay $100 to $200 for a repair.
But you might want to buy a new model even at this stage,
given that today's models are quieter and have added features.
Higher energy efficiency is another plus: Energy Star-qualified models made after April 28, 2008,
are 43 percent more efficient than conventional models built before 2001 and 56 percent
more efficient than those built before 1993.

When it pays to replace.

The repair costs more than half the price of a comparable new freezer.
Data also shows that it doesn't pay to fix a less-expensive freezer
six or more years old .

Thanks to better recycling programs, less than 10 percent
of a freezer you replace is likely to end up in a landfill.

Westinghouse Freezer

rhany,
Hello,
May I ask you how old these two Westinghouse Freezers are?
And their model #'s?

The alarm light intermittently, could mean the temperature fluctuates due to an ongoing problem that is starting to take place.

Or that that sensor or or light is malfunctioning and all is really well.
You need to put a refrigerator thermometer in and check the temperatures before you decide what you have to do with them! I think it's just the faulty light and probably all is well.
Let me know what you decide.
Please remember to make a rating before you sign off .
Bless You
Huuum
But I think that these two freezers sound very old !

Coolant is leaking (because it is probably old), so you might want to get a repair person to get some more coolant, or you could just buy a new Freezer.
