All of the Blu-Ray drivers from the 40, 60, and 80GB PS3 are the same. If you want them changed from One to Another, you need to go to a Game Store and have it professionaly done. If you do it on your own, you will 95% chance hit something wrong, or touch something and it will be completely messed up. Hope this helped.

Tip

PS3 Won't accept discs - Here is the fix!

This tip is for people who have already disassembled their Play Station 3 console and tried to replace the laser in the Blu ray optical drive.

If you replace the laser and then reassemble the Blu ray optical drive and the drive will no longer accept discs (like there is something blocking the disc) follow these steps to resolve.

(NOTE: if your PS3 is not accepting discs because the disc just won't push in, not like there is something solid blocking the drive, or your drive is making "grinding noises" refer to this tip: http://www.fixya.com/support/r4321102-bluray_drive_ps3_makes_grinding_noise )

Remove the metal casing of the Blu ray optical if you have not already done so. This requires removing the three black screws and the two silver screws on the bottom of the Blu ray optical drive.

With the metal casing removed, locate the 5 black screws on the top of the Blu ray optical drive to remove. There are two on either side and one at the back in the middle.

Keep the drive together for now (do not take the top off) and reattach to your Play Sation 3 console.

Turn on your PS3 and wait for it to power up.

Now, take the top of the Blu ray optical drive by “unfolding it” so the top of the drive rests on the PS3 power supply.

With the top off, hit the Eject button on the front of your PS3.

The drive gears should “pop” back into place.

Turn off your PS3 and reassemble the Blu ray drive. You should test your Blu ray drive first before reassembling the whole PS3.

I was wondering if i can install a blu-ray drive from an original ps3 into my slim? the blu-ray drive on my slim 1 out of a 100 times accepts and reads my games but it sounds jamed and its anoying will...

The optic lens assemblies are completely different, so to answer your question unfourtenatly no it won't work. On the good side check this site for parts, and if you don't see the one that goes in your machine I have other sites I get parts from just let me know.

My ps3 wont read no games no dvds and no blu-ray

Sadly it sounds like your blu ray laser has become faulty. Unfortunately this is a very common problem for the PS3 and there is not much that can be done about it. New lasers can be bought but they are difficult to fix. You could buy a new drive from somewhere like ebay at a cost of around £60. They are much easier to fit than the lasers themselves but you must make sure you keep the circuit board on your blu ray drive and swap it to the replacement drive as this is paired to the motherboard and will not work if it is not with the original motherboard.

Hope this helps you out and thank you for using FixYa

Ps3 can play DVD movies can't play games

You will have to replace the laser in the blu-ray drive. It will run about 80 dollars just for the laser. If you need more information email me at ced70@hotmail.com

Reads Blu-Rays and PS3 games but won't read DVD's or CD's?!?!

DVD portion of your blu-ray drive went out. It's a three part laser (cd / dvd/ blu-ray).

The ONLY way you're gonna be able to fix it is by replacing the blu-ray laser or by getting your machine serviced by Sony.

You can try a few of my tips from my guide here:

Please feel free to email me any other questions and please don't forget to rate!

Looking for a PS3 60GB model motherboard for replacement

You can't just replace the motherboard, the blu-ray is tied to the motherboard number, so if you put in a new motherboard it won't read blu-ray games anymore. Check http://www.edepot.com/playstation3.html to find out how it is tied to the motherboard.

My 60 GB PS3 wont run PS2 games

Actually only 60GB PS3s supports PS2 games. But It requires particular firmware. In first instance try updating your system, then dissable the disc autoload function, insert PS2 game, and look at the game section if your soft will recognise it. If yes just try to play

Good luck
