The setup disc for the router only needs to be run once when setting up the router to work with your internet provider and modem/router. You can try putting the disc in your desktop computer and reconfiguring the router.

I am a transcriptionist who is remotely accessing a work computer

I looked a the Infinity IN-USB-1 foot pedal, thanks. I would go out and buy a second foot pedal for home then you can remote your work pc by using the foot pedal from home. Make sure you install the drivers for the foot pedal at your home pc. If this doesnt work, you can always take the pedal back to the store. I figure that If you took away your mouse from your home pc, you could not move your mouse on the work pc. It maybe the same with the pedal. Let me know if it works.

I want to connect at home

Around the office, your laptop is probably connected to a wireless network which you don't have at home. To connect, you would need to connect to the office network from your home through a VPN (Virtual Private Network) over the Internet or through a dial-up (ugh!) connection to the office systems. Your office IT staff should be able to help you get that set up since either way it would require some configuration on their end to allow you to connect remotely to the office systems.

Unable to get remote desk top computer to work on acer aspire one

I think you're trying to connect to your office computer from home/somewhere else.

If that's the case, make sure you have done the following :
  1. Your VPN Session is connected
  2. Your Office IT Administrator allowed RDC over VPN
  3. Your Office Computer RDC is enabled
  4. Your User (local or domain user) having administrative rights or allowed to connect to RDC session
  5. You got no firewall blocking RDC connection or remote registry
To check if you already connected to your office VPN, launch command prompt and try pinging your office computer name or IP Address. As an example if your office computer name is PC-100 and IP address is 192.168.1.100 then you will issue : ping PC-100 or ping 192.168.1.100. If you got ping reply than you're good to go.

To Enable RDC on your office computer there are 2 ways :
1. On your office computer, right click my computer > properties > Remote > Enable Remote Desktop
2. Via remote registry :
- Start > Run > Regedit > Enter/Return
- On registry editor, go to File > Connect Network Registry > Type in your office computer name > OK
- On your office computer registry, browse to : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server, find the key "fDenyTSConnections", double click it and change the value to 0

You should disable your windows firewall or 3rd party firewall for easier configuration. You can;however set up exception on your firewall but will need some knowledge to do that.

Hope it helps.
