Problems with Internet Explorer

I am unable to use Internet Explorer for more than 5 minutes before I receive an Error message and get kicked off. I have downloaded Mozzilla Firefox so i can use the web, but I cannot use any IM account due to the fact that every time I download an IM system it is automatically connected to Internet Explorer and because that program does not work neither will the IM program. What can be done to fix this problem?
(I have Windows Vista as my operating system, does that have anything to do with the problem, because other than the stuff with Internet Explorer, my computer works fine.)

Thanks for the advice, but I can't find the program in my Control panel on the computer to remove it - and it is active on my computer. Now what do I do?

Instructions
    • 1 Refresh the page that failed to load. If the page reloads, you just had a momentary lapse in service that happens with most providers. Between each following step, try refreshing the page to see if the problem is resolved.
    • 2 Check the page address you typed into the address bar to make sure it is spelled right. An error in the URL address could cause this error message.

    • 3 Go to your connection settings and make sure the settings match those of your Internet serviceicon1.png provider or local area network. Do this by clicking on Tools on the toolbar, then Internet Options. Under the Connections tab, click Settings.
    • 4 Click the "Detect Network Settings" link on the Interneticon1.png Explorer page accompanying the error message to let Windows try and find an optimum connection.
    • 5 Download DNS error fix softwareicon1.png off the Internet if no other option works (see Resources). The software is free on some websites and should be able to identify the problem and correct it.

Tip

A blank Web page is displayed when you start Internet Explorer 7.

Symptom:
loadTOCNode(1, 'symptoms'); When you start Windows Internet Explorer 7, your home page does not open. Instead, a blank Web page is displayed.

Additionally, you may receive an error message that resembles the following:
Line 56
Char:2
Error: Element not found
Code: 0
URL:http://runonce.msn.com/runonce2aspx

This problem typically occurs after you install Internet Explorer 7, after you install Windows, or after you reset Internet Explorer settings. This problem may occur only for certain users.

To have us fix this problem for you, go to the “Fix it for me” section. If you would rather fix this problem yourself, go to the “Let me fix it myself” section.
Cause:
This problem occurs if the Customize Your Settings Web page in Internet Explorer 7 is not loaded correctly or if the Customize Your Settings Web page opens with restricted security settings.
Fix it for me
To fix this problem automatically, click the Fix this problem link. Then click Run in the File Download dialog box, and follow the steps in this wizard.
Fix this problem
Microsoft Fix it 50065
Note: This wizard is temporarily in English only. However, the automatic fix also works for other language versions of Windows.

Note: If you are not on the computer that has the problem, you can save the automatic fix to a flash drive or to a CD, and then you can run it on the computer that has the problem.
Let me fix it myself
To resolve this problem, create and run a Skiprunonce.reg file for each user account that experiences the problem. If you would rather modify the registry directly, see the "Advanced users" section.

To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Start a text editor, such as Notepad.
  2. Copy the following information, paste it into the text editor, and then save the file as Skiprunonce.reg:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main]

    "RunOnceHasShown"=dword:00000001

    "RunOnceComplete"=dword:00000001

  3. Exit the text editor.
  4. Double-click the Skiprunonce.reg file that you created in step 2.

When you run the Skiprunonce.reg file, you will receive the following message:
Are you sure you want to add the information in path of .reg file to the registry?
Click Yes. Then you will receive the following message:
Information in path of .reg file has been successfully entered into the registry.
Notes:
  • In Windows Vista, when non-administrator users try to run SkipRunOnce.reg they are prompted for an administrator password.
  • To run SkipRunOnce.reg for all users at the same time, modify SkipRunOnce.reg by replacing [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main] with [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main] and then running it as an administrator.

If you're receiving an error message that says, 'In order to log in to Gmail, your browser must be set to allow JavaScript to set cookies,' we suggest the following:
  1. Open Internet Explorer, and click Tools along the top of your browser window.
  2. Select Internet Options... and click the Security tab at the top of the dialog box.
  3. Click Trusted sites, and then click Sites...
  4. Enter the following sites in the Add this Web site to the zone field:
  5. Click OK to save your changes.
Next, please clear your browser's cache. To clear your cache, visit the Internet Explorer Help Center for instructions.Close all open browser windows, restart Internet Explorer, and sign in to Gmail. If you're unable to sign in, we suggest removing all of your trusted sites in IE, then signing in again.
If you still can't sign in, try signing in securely by changing the URL tohttps://mail.google.com.

2) Click on Tools, Click on Internet Options
3) On the General tab under Temporary Internet Files, click on Delete Files
4) Click Ok when it asks if you want to delete the files
5) Under the History section on the General tab, click Clear History, then click Ok
6) Close Internet Explorer
7) Log off the current user and Log onto another user account such as Administrator
8) Click on Start, Run
9) Type CMD and Press Enter to open a command prompt
10) Change directories to the Temporary Internet Files directory by typing the following command,
(substituting the correct drive letter and the word username with the correct userName).

cd drive:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5

Example: cd c:\Documents and Settings\Mark\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5

11) type del index.dat and press Enter
12) Type Exit and press Enter to close the command prompt
13) Restart your computer

Once the computer has been restarted, open a web page with a link to a download.
