I have an Epson Stylus 830U Printer which has been brilliant over the past 8 years but today on start up the carriage was in normal start position but the red light is flashing. I cannot get it to print or the carriage to move at all. Any ideas

Replacing procedure only available if one or more ink tank "empty" or not recognized. Follow "how to..." at epson status monitor. but if you wish to replace, just turn on printer, unplug power chord while carriage moving. The carriage released from locking position, move carriage by hand to the appropriate position.

3. Click on "Drivers & Software".

please inform about that that are alternet blinking or not......... if alternet blinking you need to reset wast pad counter. you can download from indoreset website a adjustment program.

Follow How to on epson status monitor for replacing ink tank. Or, turn on printer, immediatelly unplug power while carriage moving. Then move carriage by hand to replacement position.

I realised that I had to replace both the ink cartridges even though I only wanted to replace the black for it to work. Once I replaced both the black and colour cartridge the red light went off. Thanks

Here is how to get the ink cartridges to move to the changing position on the R320.

1. Press the paper jam/ink button on the printer control panel.
2. A menu comes up. 1st item is ink cartridge replacement. Press
OK button.
3. Another menu with ink cartridge replacement. Press OK button.
4. Thats it, ink cartridges move to the changing position. Change your cartridge as you normally would and follow prompts on screen to finish process.

I'm afraid this series of printer (810 -830) doesn't handle heavy photo paper well - which is a bit strange for a so-called photo printer. If you hold each sheet and help it to feed it will work. But ...... for goodness sake. Your best bet is to sell it on e-bay and buy something that will handle heavy paper.
