Expson CX8400 All-in-one printer

I just bought the above new printer that is compatible to my computer, but when I try to print the message says Cannot Recognize Print Cartridges. I have installed cartridges correctly.

    I could not use any ink cartridge but Epson's...it will not recognize the cartridge no matter what I do.

    when i try to hit "setup" to solve this problem it says "invalid operation". What do i do. this is the worste printer ever.

    Same printer, purchased same time from Staples UK. I have installed Black, Cyan, Yellow correctly with no problems before. I was almost finished printing 12 page Word document and it stopped saying I had run out of Magenta and Black. I could not get new inks then so had to abort print run and start agin when I had the inks.
    It now says that it does not recognise my cartridges- black, cyan and yellow after replacing Magenta only. So it does not print. I have not touched any other cartridge.

I had a problem with one of my Epson ink cartriges and called the company and they replaced it for free. Also many companies that sell knock off ink cartridges now have fixed the problem and now they are recognized by the printer.

You cannot enter Setup Mode while there is an existing Ink Cartridge Error being posted.

Try this and post back results

Make sure the ink cartridges are installed properly.

  1. Press the Setup button, use the Expson CX8400 All-in-one printer - leftarro.jpg or rightarr.jpg button to select Maintenance, then press OK.
  2. UExpson CX8400 All-in-one printer - uparrow2.jpgsrc="http://i.fixya.net/uploads/images/uparrow2.jExpson CX8400 All-in-one printer - downarro.jpgrrow2.jpg" class="h_mi" /> or downarro.jpg button to select Change Ink Cartridge, then press OK.
  3. Open the printer cover, then open the cartridge cover.
  4. Press each ink cartridge down (you may hear a cartridge click into place if it was incorrectly installed the first time).
  5. Close the cartridge cover and the printer cover.
  6. Press the OK button.

i have this link below that gives you allinformation about your Epson printer. specifically the manual , required for review to address the issue with the ink cartridge error.

Your problem may be caused by your computer, cable, software, or setting selections. Check for additional solutions or re-install your software. If the pattern on the page has gaps, clean or align the print head. • If the page does not print, the Epson Stylus CX8400 Series may have a problem. Check for additional solutions. I replaced a new lexmark 23 print cartridge in my X4530 printer.


This happens from time to time. I have bought new 22 & 23 cartridges for my Lex. x3350 before with "flawed" contacts. Either return it for refund or buy a new one. Thw next working one you get, try re filling it. I get mine refilled at Walgreens. Cost for me in Texas is $10 for black and 15 for color. I refill them 4 times before I replace with new. Saved me a ton of money.

Epson stylus cx8400 cannot recognize ink cartridges


I had the same problem except it would not recognize any of the ink cartridges. I kept hitting the OK button over and over again with the same cartridges in place not removing them at all and it finally recognized them. Decided to go to maintenance on the printer to do a test, and it went right back to not recognizing the cartridges. So i pressed the OK button over and over again until it finally recognized all the cartridges again, but this time i did not try and go into the maintenance to do a test run. Plugged it up to the computer and it has been working ever since. So press the OK button until it recognizes the cartridges, and run no tests on it is what my solution was for the problem. Really is a pain but it works now.

Epson cartridges are microchipped.

Do your new cartridges carry the same chip?

If not, they will not work.

If all else fails, return them to the supplier and explain they are not recognised by your printer.

have you tried to using the head cleaning? It will clean the nozzles inside your printer. you can check your manual how to do it.

Let me know if you find it--my computer and the printer show that my ink cartridges are full, but blank paper comes out when I try to print.

i was having the same problem and just got off of the phone with tech support who fixed the problem for me,

go into system preferences
print and fax

there you should see the printer cx8400.

remove the printer by clicking on the - sign.

then re add the printer, by clicking the +

the computer will search for the drivers and install them.

that should have you printing like a champ.

Same problem. just bought the cx8400 today. I'm running the imac 10.5. It's feeding endless amounts of paper and can't cancel the job. Please let me know if you've found a solution. NO FRIGGEN PAGE SET UP option.!!!!
