How do I pop the lid off? I usually take it somewhere to have it done. Please help...

Posted on Aug 31, 2008

Turn it over and pop the lid part off. there are 2 large holes parallel to each other and then 3 smaller holes perpendicular to it. Feed the line into one large hole, pull it thru the closest outermost smaller hole. pull it back thru the farthest outermost hole and thread it back out the other large hole. where the smaller holes are, pull the feed back so you only get the line as long as you want.

What to do? I have a craftsman GT 5000 with a 25 HP Kohler and it will run for about 10 minutes and then start cutting out and die. I have changed the fuel filter with no resolve. What should I look at...

Make sure the choke is coming off. Check the compression. Many times the head gasket may leak when the engine heats up. Also check for spark sometimes the magneto can heat up and quit after running a while. See if it will run if you prime with a little fuel, if so ,some of the Kohler engines this size have a fuel pump that could be failing. Check for vapor lock. It takes air and fuel properly mixed, spark and compression any of these missing the engine dies.

No power output

Excessive load on the generator may have damaged the power head, but verify that the circuit breaker at the output plug is not tripped before yuo attempt any other repairs.

Gererac 5500 XL with an EHF00945 11 HP engine What is the torque for the 4 head bolts?

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly
I have tried going to the owner's manual and the parts listings

Owner's
http://www.managemylife.com/mmh/lis_pdf/OWNM/L0208260.pdf

Part's listings
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-model/Craftsman-Parts/Generator-Parts/Model-580327160/0247/0702250/P0208117/00007?blt=06&prst=&shdMod=

I even know the cylinder head has 4 bolts and the head part number is 21714
Yet nothing I have looked at tells me the actual engine number. With and actual engine Model Number I can answer your question without guessing which engine you have.

This appears to be a GN320 engine.
If that is the case... the torque is 44 Ft Lbs

Torque Pattern
Bottom left A
Upper right B
Bottom right C
Upper Left. D

CHECKING/ADJUSTING VALVE TO

ROCKER ARM CLEARANCE

Every 50 hours of operation, remove the rocker cover and

check the valve to rocker arm clearance.

When adjusting the clearance, the engine should be at room

temperature, and the piston should be at Top Dead Center

(TDC) of its compression stroke (both valves are closed). The
correct clearance is 0.05-0.1mm (0.002-0.004 in.).

Jam nuts 65-85 inch lbs

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

I hav a powercraft 2200L geni and fuel lines leaks,it has a rubber fuel line initially when i bought it.. But has recently replaced it with a plastic one, now should i revert back to rubber and where can i...

I would change back to a rubber fuel line for gasoline. The plastic may melt with the heat from the engine. An automotive store should have a fuel line. I believe a 1/4 inch line (diameter) is good (check your size to make sure). Buy 18 inches, it is more than you need, but it is better to have more fuel line than too little. Purchase hose clamps as well.

Just up graded from a homelite 4400 to a craftsman 5600 generator 5600 does not have enough output as did the 4400 why

Some manufacturers tend to fudge the numbers and throw around the 'peak' output power as continuous and it isn't. Peak (or surge) is the power a generator will handle as starting current (for example) for a motor and can be 120-140% of the actual continuous power.
Check you owner's manual, find the detailed specs which will normally contain the maximum continuous current rating. If it is listed separately for 120 and 220 (240) volts look for separate current ratings for each output.
By multiplying the current(s) times the output voltages you can find the total resistive output into a purely resistive load such as an electric heater.
For example: 120VAC X 20 A=2400 watts. If other outputs are available such as 220VAC, multiply its current rating: 10A. or 2200 watts Adding those two results 2400 2200=4600 watts will give you the rated power of a unit.
You can also recognize stupid power claims if the engine's horsepower is given. One (US) HP = ~746 watts. Since no generator is 100% efficient, its a fair rule of thumb to guesstimate the available electrical power at ~70% of the engine's rating (although, this is often also wildly optimistic). 10 HP X .7= ~746 X 7 or a bit over 5,000 watts.

Craftsman Pressure Washer Model #580762250 Serial # 4033531 Need a manual for this particular machine. When it builds up pressure it cuts off.

I believe sears will give you one free;
http://www.managemyhome.com/mmh/lis_pdf/OWNM/98070390.pdf

you have to download it, but it isn't too much trouble, page 16 lists a whole laundry list of possible problems. Word of advice, change your oil in the pump regularly, if it is burnt appearing you might want to consider replacing rings etc and complete teardown, we didn't and trashed the pump.
