I have a Toshiba M70 laptop. I want to revert to the factory settings and re-install Window XP. The Product recovery DVD ROM does not run any program but just has a large file that Windows does not recognize. How do I revert?

You should be able to boot to that disk and begin the reinstall process. just put the disk in, reboot, and watch the boot process to give you a prompt similar to "press any key to boot from CD..."
That should start you install.

In need of restoring to factory settings, (Toshiba Satellite M45). Held down zero, powered on, no beeps occur. The recovery utility never appears. Not listed in All Programs for Hard Disk Utility nor in...

It appears the recovery partition has been removed from your hard disk. You need to obtain a Recovery CD from Toshiba.
OR
If you have a Windows XP Home installation CD then you can use it to reinstall Windows on your Toshiba and the product installation code will be on the Windows label on the bottom of your laptop.

You can download thedevice drivers for your model laptop from the Toshiba WEB site from theirdownload page. Make sure you enter the model of your laptop so you can get thecorrect drivers. How to restore toshiba labtop with no disc

Hello

Well, if you have no Installation disc, or no cd/dvd rom in this specific model, you should have a recovery partition.

To access the Toshiba recovery partition, power off the laptop. Hold down the 0 (zero) key and turn the laptop on. Keep holding down the zero key until the TOSHIBA logo appears, where you should start tapping the zero key repeatedly. Stop if the unit beeps or when the TOSHIBA logo disappears. The screen should flash ** HDD RECOVERY MODE ** for a split second, then load the Toshiba recovery program right from the hard drive.

Note that this erases all data, and reloads all factory default software. Be sure to back up all your important personal data beforehand!

If this procedure doesn't work, you don't have a recovery partition set up, hence, you will need the installation disc.

Hope this can be of help.

Kind regards
Andrea

How to reset operating system on a toshiba satelite pro L100 -200 laptop xp

First, backup all your data & music & E-mail & contacts to an external device (disk-drive or USB memory-stick or blank CD/DVD writable disk(s)).

Did you get a set of "System Recovery" CD/DVD disks when you purchased the computer? If you did, use those disks to reinstall Windows.

If not, is there an installed program that lets you "burn" a few CD/DVD disks, to create such a set of disks? If so, run the program, and then use those disks.

Or, telephone Toshiba, and see if you can order a set of "System Recovery" disks. Probably about $20 for the disks, and $20 for overnight-courier delivery.

What are the steps of formatting toshiba tecra M9 using window XP Recovery Disk?

If you are using the original XP Recovery Disk for Toshiba, you have to set your first boot to CD/DVD Rom from our Bios setting or use the 1st boot Function Utility when booting up.

If your 1st boot is your CD/DVD Rom, the Recovery Disk will boot up, and your just follow the wizard to finish the OS installation back go the default setting.

Hope it helps.

I want to restore to factory settings for toshiba laptop l100-179 please help

Before you boot up, press and hold the "c" button and it will run the recovery image if you have an HDD recovery.

If you have recovery discs, press "F12", before you boot up then select the ODD or DVD/CD rom drive. Insert disc then proceed.

Hope this helps.

Looking for wireless on switch on laptop

Right Side, underneath your volume control. If it is switched on and still cant access the internet wireless give this a try.

Use Control Panel's Add or Remove Programs utility to uninstall the Toshiba Hotkey Utility, and then reinstall it.
This program is called E-Key Utility on the Toshiba Satellite M30X/M35X Recovery and Applications/Drivers DVD. It's called Toshiba E-Key Utility for Windows XP on the Toshiba Support website.

Unistalling the Toshiba Hotkey Utility:
  1. Click Start.

  2. Click Control Panel.

  3. Double-click Add or Remove Programs.

  4. Select TOSHIBA Hotkey Utility.

  5. Click Change/Remove.

  6. Click OK to confirm that you wish to completely remove the selected application and its features. The InstallShield Wizard will begin the removal process.

  7. Click Finish to exit the InstallShield Wizard.
Re-installing the Toshiba Hotkey Utility using the Toshiba Satellite M30X/M35X Series Recovery and Applications/Drivers DVD that shipped with the computer:
  1. Insert the Toshiba Satellite M30X/M35X Series Recovery and Applications/Drivers DVD into the CD/DVD drive and close the tray. The setup program on the DVD should start automatically.

  2. When the Toshiba Recovery and Applications CD window appears, verify that "Install applications and drivers" is the selected install type, and click Next.

  3. Select E-key Utility from the list, and click Install.

  4. When the WinZip Self-Extractor window appears, click OK.

  5. Click Unzip.

  6. Click OK to acknowledge that the files were successfully unzipped.

  7. When the InstallShield window appears, click Next and follow the prompts to complete the installation.

  8. When the installation is complete, click Exit and then OK to close the Toshiba Recovery and Applications CD window.

  9. Remove the Toshiba Satellite M30X/M35X Series Recovery and Applications/Drivers DVD from the optical drive and close the tray.
Reinstalling the Toshiba Hotkey Utility using the file downloaded from the Toshiba Support website:
  1. Download the Toshiba E-key Utility for Windows XP from the Toshiba Support website, and save it to your computer. See also the bulletin Obtaining downloads and support docs from the Toshiba Support website.

  2. Navigate to where you saved the file and double-click it.

  3. Click Run.

  4. When the WinZip Self-Extractor window appears, click OK.

  5. Click Unzip.

  6. Click OK to acknowledge that the files were successfully unzipped.

  7. When the InstallShield window appears, click Next and follow the prompts to complete the installation.

Need help for Toshiba Satellite A60

You have to order replacement disks from Toshiba - probably about $30 for a set.

If you are getting errors with installing just plain XP, you probably have a hardware problem - Probably a bad hard drive or stick or RAM. Try pulling one stick out (if you have 2) and reinstalling XP.

You can get hard drive testing software here:
http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/support/download.htm

Get the ISO download on that page. If you need to know how to burn the ISO to CD properly look here:

Missing or corrupt windows\system32\config\system file in XP

sciberteach:
Go in the BIOS, in the boot sequence make your DVD player as the 1st number device to boot from, restart your machine and do follow the article (you should know the admin password to go into the system drive):
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307545
Note: If you are too overwhelmed then your Product recovery DVD will give you your original OS and all settings back.
Good luck!
