Same problem just happend to me. Unit turned off by itself. I turned it back on and then it shut off 5 sec later. Then I tried again, this time shut off in 2 sec. Then would not turn on anymore.

8-12-08 - I purchased on of these units a year or so ago. The first one when out in the same manner as described after about 4 months. I returned to Lowrance and they sent me another one. This past weekend the same thing happened again. I think possibly Lowrance possibly has a problem with this particular unit. I had an LMS240C and never had a problem with it but purchased a new boat and wanted an in-dash color one. Will return this unit to Lowrance as well.

I'm on my second unit as well. The thing shuts down when it gets warm. I found it goes down quicker in the sun, but since I don't fish at night, the unit is worthless. My replacement unit has died with the same problem as the first. Lowrance should recall all of these things since they are unreliable.

My Lowrance 5500c powers up gets to aquired satelites and then stops on that page.No buttons work and the power has to be disconnected to turn off.

It is an old unit, it has been discontinued, there are no software updates for it.

Technology has moved on with larger High Definition displays, colour and side imaging. Time to retire it and look at Humminbird. I have the 998 HD Si. That replaced a 798 before it. Lowrance have the Chirp equivalents if you want to stick with Lowrance.

Or you could return it and see if they can fix it

Lowrance LCX power up problem

On Lowrance LCX-19 and I would assume other LCX series units.
The T3 Transformer shorts out and when the sonar kicks in it causes the unit to go over current and will eather cause the unit to reset and start again or blow the fuse. If you have the ability you can re-wind the transformer.

The primary is 46 turns of 24awg inverter duty magnet wire,
The secondary is 164 turns of 26awg inverter duty magnet wire.

Be sure to keep the same winding direction as what you take off as it may be phase sensitive. Be sure to use mylar tape between the primary and secondary windings.

Just a note this board has very heavy power planes and is very hard to solder/de-solder on.

Hi, i have a Lowrance Elite 5 and it won't turn on. Its about 20 months old, there is power to it and the fuse is fine, the night before it copped some rain and have since dryer it out but still nothing,,...

Probably still wet on internal electronics.
I would disconnect it's power input. Open it up & check for moisture. Blow out with gentle dry air or If still damp, place a small cotton bag full of rice inside and let that suck all the moisture out for a few hours.

Our unit will not power up

Hi urcvrdha,

You have an elaborate unit! I like these. Your problem sounds more electrical than software related. Try taking all power off the unit for about 30 minutes, then powering up again. Of course, check your fuses. If you get the unit back up to the main menu, and things are not working properly, go to the various "reset" options in your manual for that mode of operation.

If it does not succeed in getting power, I recommend contacting your local Marine/Lorrance dealer for service.

If you don't have your manual handy, download one here:

I hope this adds a little information to your problem search. Thanks.

My Transducer had broke and the sonar went out, then the transducer fell completely off and the unit itself will not power up. I checked the power ot the unit and i have 12 volts going to the unit. It...

All Lowrance systems have an in-line 3 Amp fuze. My guess is that when it broke and fell off the fuze shorted out. Look back the power sypply to the unit and you will find the in-line fuze. Replsacit with a new 3 Amp fuze and you should be up and running.

The LGC-2000 is bad would be the most likely cause, but if this started right after you changed the cables, Try connecting the NMEA 2000 network to a different power source than the main power. If you still have the original cables, and you didn't have the problem before, try using those again to make sure there isn't anything wrong with any of the new cables.

But most likely, the LGC-2000 is toast and you will want to contact Lowrance support to see about getting it repaired/replaced.

Keeps blowing fuses

It has a short in the wiring which is "not user fixable". I think the wires are crossed. Take it back, they need to repair or replace it. I suggest you replace it. Take the GPS with you show you can show them the problem. If you bought this on line call Lowrance and find the nearest repair center. Repair it yourself and you loose the warentee.

Powerin up - screen goes blank after a few swconds -

had same problem. the cause was corrosion in the boat wiring. the power wire was corroded 95%thru. there was enough voltage to start the unit but when the sounder kicks in the voltage dropped below minimum and the unit shut off. took a LOOOONG time to find.
