It sounds like your drain hose is kinked or blocked, or maybe the pipe that the drain hose drains into is blocked. Somehow water is now being allowed to get out of the machine at the end of the cycle and is staying in the machine. Check those hoses and pipes.

Ours has the same problem and we don't have any hose issues. I think it is a poor design by GE. What can be done about it?

GE Profile top load washer not spinning during drain cycles. Have tried resetting motor with door switch trick but still stuck. Water drains but machine not spinnin out.

it seems to me that the water sensor switch is not letting the control panel that the water has all gone therefore check in the back of the machine and look for a small 5mm pipe take it off and blow gently into it you should hear a click and one when you let the air out if so then the place where you took the pipe from is blocked not allowing it to operate so take a pipe cleaner or a steel rod to fit the hole and unclog it its normally blocked with soap goo eric

I occasionally have a sewer gas smell near my washer. But after I run the washer, the smell will go away for a few days. What could the problem be?

Hi Joe

Is that pex pipe on the right your water supply to the washer?

Your sewer gas smell I believe can be eliminated by putting a P trap in the drain PVC line.

Where the drain hose from the washer hooks into the PVC pipe is NOT airtight which would allow the sewer gas back into the laundry room!

If there is a P-trap in your outflow pipe, the only place left for grey water to collect (and stink) would be between the washer and where the waste hose goes into the drain. We've had to use a little bit of bleach on occasion when we haven't used the washer for a bit.
Hope this helps

Replaced the drain hose and now during washing water tends to back up while draning out the sewer pipe.

New hose end may be aimed into drain pipe side causing water to gush back and not straight down drain. Some hose holders are difficult to align. If old hose was restricted and new one is not, the volume of the washer pump can back up a restricted drain. Clear blockage or reduce hose output and live with it. Washer pump out time should be adequate.

Smell from water remaining in grey seal

My GE washer model wcvh6400j0ww was leaking. May be standing water under your machine. The repair person thought the gasket. It turned out to be the water in-let pipe (WH41X10118 and you will need seal WH41X10119) and not the gasket. He ordered the gasket and took machine apart to replace and found cracked pipe. Take your machines front off and make sure it is the gasket leaking. Good Luck,

There is power to the washer, water will drain

Try unplugging machine for 30 seconds then plug back in then lift and close the lid 5 times which will reset the motor. Try the spin cycle if it works you may have had a power surge which took the motor out and just needed reset. If it fails you may have a bad inline fuse or motor.

Washer still has lots of water in it at the end of the spin cycle. Also, we notice bad oder each time the washer is used. Are these related? How do I fix this problem?

The most common problem is the water pump is malfunctioning and not allowing the water to drain all the way out, if the machine sits over a week the water turns sour and smells bad. so check that the pump is not plugged up and check that the pipe from the pump is not plugged up. if hose is not plugged up and the belt on the pump is tightened up it could still be a bad water pump so I suggest you replace it. Also with a water hose push water threw the drain pipe in the wall to see if the pipe is plugged, it should take full water hose pressure without a problem, if it backs up then you have a plugged drain pipe. remove the drain pipe form the hole in the wall and push hose onto the water hose put washer on spin and have other end off the hose bib, watch the water flow as it pumps water out of the spin cycle if the water does not come out fast than you have a bad pump or a bad water pump belt. since it won't drain all the way this will cause the water to smell sour.

My washer keeps giving the message that the washer wont drain. Check the lines for kinks, etc. I have removed the back of the washer, checked the pump and all of the drain hoses, there is no blockage. The...

you may want to look at that pump again
for that model is rated at 8.5 ft
so it should be moving that water right along
when you have the pump hoses off put the unit in drain and watch the impella, it is quite possible stripped.

GE Drain Hose

Hi, Does this washer have to pump the water up into a drain? If it is possible, it would be better for the machine if you can bring the drin pipe closer to the washer. I know it is not always a possibilty. The longer the drain hose, the harder it is on the washer and sometimes the cloths don't spin out as dry as they will with a short drain hose.

There is a product out there called Affresh. It is a tablet that can be used on all front loaders that do not have a Clean Cycle. It works great. It comes three tables to a bag. You should use all three the first time that you do this. After that, once a month is all that is needed. Two suggestions to help eliminate the smell and mildew. One, keep a wash rag handy and wipe up any water that remains in the door seal. Second, leave the door open for a day so that the washer can air out. This applies to all front loaders, not just GE, that do not have a Clean Cycle. Also, water sometimes stays in between the inner and outer tub. This water can become stagnant and create mildew, mold, and odor problems. I hope this helps!!! -The Appliance Braniac
