The system will power on, hear the fan and everything. The green light comes on, the blue light comes on, yet i only have a black screen and no sound. Tried with AV cable and HDMI cable... same thing. tried with a different hard drive. If I turn on the controller, I still have a black screen with 2 options... 1. Turn off system 2. Turn off controller
also shows that controller 1 is charging. tried to reset several times, no result. Any help? The system is not in warranty anymore.

Re: ps3 80 gig
Try getting a new AV Option, well actually first startup your PS3, startup your controller, and hit the center PS3 button, because those 2 options are only in the Main PS3 Option, which is accesed and closed through hitting the middle button on your controller. Hope this helped.

switch power back off, teun it on, hold power touch on the front down--> PS3 will turn on, keep holding until it turns off. when it turns off, take of your finger. hold down your finger again on the power touch, green light will blink, keep holding, you will hear one peep, then two peeps (when you hear the two peeps take off you finger); a menu will show up, chose restore factory default setting then ok, PS3 will restart, hopefully that will fix it
Try removing the motherboard from the screens and attach the battery the green light should turn on and stay on.
Now attach the lower screen and turn on. If the screen is ok the screen and green light will flash and then turn off. (if the screen doesn't flash the bottom screen is you're problem and will have to be replaced)
If this happens the problem is then you're top screen which you will have to replace.
This sounds like a cable issue. I would make sure everything is connected correctly/securely and if that doesn't work I would try a new cable. If it isn't the cable you can return it for no cost other than gas.
actuallly a lot of ps2 games can be played with the HDMI connected. I do it all the time... however yes the 60 gig will not play every ps2 game and there is a whole slew of the 60 gigs that are not backwards compatable at all. check it out on wikipedia's page on the ps3.
I haven't had a problem with any ps2 game yet, and the only ps game that I own that hasn't played on my ps3 is FF8.
