Saturn is a GM product, take it to any Chevy dealer and they should be able to help you. Although, if the previous owner left the car manual in the glove box then the factory unlock code should be there, unless they previous owner changed the code then the dealer will have to reset it.
You need to gete the radio security code and enter it in. Just call or drop by the dealer and theye can give you the code or enter it. Should be free but your dealer may vary. When you changed the battery and lost power the radio goes into a secure mode just in case it was stolen. The code should be about 4 digets long so its not a big thing to enter. its keyed to your vin number so the d ealer may want to see that as well as your registtration and maybe a drivers licence depending on how paranoid they are.
A1 locksmith advised me to To install batteries, remove cover between knob and keypad.Unlock door with the override key provided in the plastic bag attached to the owner's manual, and open the door using the knob. Remove battery cover located on the inside back of the door by sliding to the right. Insert the four batteries as indicated. Replace the battery cover.
The radio goes in safe mode when the battery gets disconnected, or if for some reason the radio lost power connection.
To get the radio out of safe mode you will need the anti theft code.
This is available with car documentation, in first page of the in car entertainment booklet, or on first page of the car booklet (not the car manual).
Once you have got the code, do the following:
Hold down both the AM/FM and the SCAN button at the same time, until the display shows "1000".
Use the buttons 1,2,3,4 to change each of the digits until you get displayed the same code as printed on documentation (ensure that it is the right one).
On some radio (programmable models), the default code is "1111" or "1234".
Press and hold the AM/FM and SCAN buttons again until the radio is starting.
If you fail twice the code, the radio will lock up in safe mode, and you won't be able to enter the code again.
If the radio is locked, or if the code is lost, the unlock can be done at the nearest car dealer, usually for a small fee, or for free.
You must get the 4 digit security code and enter it into the radio by pressing the AM and FM2 buttons at the same time. Then enter code via the preset buttons. Press button #1 until you get the first digit of the code then press button #2 until you get the 2nd digit and so on for the 3rd and 4th digits. when code is on the display press the AM and FM2 buttons again and radio should come back on. if it reads safe you have the wrong code #. You can get the code from a dealer for a small fee. They need to remove the radio to get a serial # on the radio chassis.
Yes, alot of cars have this feature. It is a anti-theft feature so if it is removed you need a code to unlock the radio (or if the battery is unpluged). If it's an after market deck than it should be in the manual if no manual than try googling it. If it is the factory deck than more than likly you will have to go back to the dealer to get the code. Good luck.
