Question about Acer Computers & Internet

1 Answer

Is there supposed to be some kind of a bracket holding the hard drive in a Acer, Aspire 1690 Series notebook, or does the hard drive just slide in without a bracket. I need to install a new hard drive in one of the above mentioned notebooks. I have the new hard drive but do I need to buy some kind of bracket to mount the hard drive in, before I install it in the note book?

Dear Customer,
Acer hard drive brackets or caddies are available for all the notebook series. i would recommend you to go for a bracket for the hard drive rather than just sliding it in. For information regarding the brackets try the following site

Acer aspire 1690, what is HDD password to start laptop

This password is to protect unauthorized access to data on the hard drive. The password is stores on the firmware chip on the hard drive and there are no backdoor passwords available, and moving the hard drive to another computer will not work either.
Ask the person who set the password, then you will be able to remove it by going into the BIOS setup.
The only other option is to install a new hard drive and reinstall Windows.

Hard Disk upgrade

Figured this out...
1)  Flip laptop over, keep front of laptop closest to you and hinges away from you 2)  Remove cover with cylinder/harddrive icon (2 screws) 3)  Remove small single silver screw near the front (close to you) of the laptop in the center of the metal harddrive caddy (the caddy may hold one or two hard drives) 4)  Pull the plastic tab on the left toward the outside of the laptop... the whole caddy with harddrive(s) inside will shift to the left, disconnecting it from the motherboard and lining up the caddy for removal. 5)  Lift the entire bracket straight up
To remove the primary harddrive (the only one present in my model) you must remove the blue L-shaped circuit board from the caddy. 1)  Flip the caddy over 2)  Remove the three screws with slightly larger head diameters around the perimiter of the caddy 3)  Push/slide/jiggle the circuit board so the sata connectors release from the hard drive(s). 4)  Unscrew the hard drive from the caddy
