2 possibilities to try. #1) download Itunes (new version) and install - make sure you have volume up via keyboard key looks like speaker with rings to right. #2) try reinstalling your OS. It sounds like you deleted a pce of software that corrupted the OS

I am installing my sound driver and it says no device found. tried formatting the system and installing system driver and chipset driver and then instaling audio

The very basic step that I can suggest is this. Launch the Inspiron's internal troubleshooter utility. This may resolve problems in connecting to peripheral devices such as your mouse, printer or scanner. Click the "Start" menu button in the lower left-hand corner of the screen. Select "Help and Support". A dialog window will appear. Enter "hardware troubleshooter" in the search box and press the arrow icon on the right of the box. Double-click "Hardware Troubleshooter" in the next window. Then, follow the on-screen prompts. The utility will scan the laptop and attempt to resolve any identified hardware and software problems. Still no luck, this is the another self help option available for you. Just go for clicking on the URL Diagnose and repair sound playback problems automatically
Also verify Audio Settings are Turned Up and Not Muted
  1. Double-click the speaker icon in the system tray.
  2. Verify that the audio settings slider bar is at least midway for all audio selections.
  3. Remove any check marks that appear in the mute boxes

You have not mentioned your sound card make, searching for the drivers would be easy. Also ensure that in the Device Manager there is no yellow question mark which means a uncompatiable version of the drivers

Hope that helps !!!!

Cheers !

Hi i'm just new at this. we have no sound what so ever. i found the sound chip number or something. how can i get my sound back online again?

1. Lets start with the obvious. Make sure the volume mixer control is not muted. This is usually a speaker icon at the bottom of the screen. If you do not see this then go to control panel, sounds and audio devices, and make sure nothing is muted.
2. check device manager. This can be done in Win XP by right clicking my computer, properties, hardware, then click device manager. Alternative way to enter device manager is by clicking start menu, control panel, system (performance and maintenance), hardware then device manager.

In the deice manager window see if any question marks or exclamation points are visible.

If so, see if it the mark is for an audio device.

If it is an audio device, uninstall the device.

Next, try to install the sound card driver again. If that fails, the enter the device manager and uninstall the sound card again, restart the PC, ignore the hardware manager, and try to install the sound card driver software again.
