It stopped drying on certain stages. Then today, when we pushed the start button it hummed and acted like it wanted to start, but didn't. I tried it again 20 miutes later, started up with a humming sound, sounded clunky, then stopped. I vacummed all around it and it the lint trap thinking the motor was blowing hot, but that didnt seem to do anything. Oh I need help please!! I am not even sure where to look or start to troubleshoot. it did smell like something metal was burning up after the machine shut off...

Most dishwashers do not have a 'reset' button other than the on/off switch. It would seem that you have a problem within the control panel if it is a computerized model and it is usually best to have a service call to test for this.
If the unit is fairly new, check the manual to be certain that you are not missing a step somewhere.
Hi,If you hear the hum while you are pushing the start button and when you let off the button the hum stops, you have a notor going bad.
If you can get someone to help you, open the door, hold the door switch in, while someone else holds the start button, you try and turn the drum with your other hand. Sometimes the motor will start but, this only confirms the motor is bad and needs replaced. I hope this helps.
You have a motor that has a thermal overload built into it. This is for the dryer's protection. My best guess is to replace the motor. But before you do all that, make sure the wiring is good from the receptacle to the controls in the back of the dryer. It could not have a good connection thus causing this noise.
