Usually when you have a bad clutch slave cylinder you know it right away because since it is a hydraulic part, once a seal inside the slave cylinder gets bad, it will start leaking fluid, at the same time, because the seal is not sealing properly, it will allow air inside the system causing your clutch pedal to feel soft and spongy.
When a clutch pedal feels that way, its an indication of air in the system and when this happens it makes it hard to operate the clutch properly because it engages even with your foot almost all the way to the floor. at times you may not even be able to place your car or truck in gear due to this problem.
A bad clutch master cylinder will have similar symptoms, make sure that you look closely at each one of these items to determine which one is the problem (the one malfunctioning will be the one leaking fluid)
One check you can do on the master cylinder is to depress the clutch pedal while someone watches the brake fluid reservoir level. if the level rises while the clutch pedal is being depressed than the clutch master cylinder is bad and should be rebuilt or replaced.

Clutch master and slave cylinder

Reservoir drained=got leak. Should be evident on one or other. Sometimes leaking at firewall hard to detect. Replace both, if one wore out the other won't be far behind. My 88 toyota pickup leaked there but replacement master cylinder rod was too long so had to use homemade spacer on firewall in engine compartment. Slave cylinder was a pain to get mounted.

My 1994 Nissan Altima's clutch is leaking fluid and the clutch goes all the way down to the floor, it will not go into gear

The solution is pretty cut-and-dry. Fix the fluid leak and your transmission will go into gear. I don't know what to tell you to fix exactly because I do not know where it is leaking from. If it is leaking from the slave cylinder, replace the slave cylinder; If it is leaking from the master cylinder, replace the master cylinder, etc.

Fixing just one part of the clutch may not be the best option for you however. Clutch parts seem to wear out all within a few thousand miles of one-another. Depending on how many miles are on your vehicle you may want to do a complete clutch replacement so you won't have any further clutch problems for several years.

Replaced whole clutch and slave cylinder on 1996 Toyota T100 2wd 2mos. ago. Today while driving the clutch hit the floor. I did'nt see any fluid leakage. Any ideas.

Sounds like you need to bleed the system again, or you have an air leak. try bleeding again and just check your fittings for tightness.

85 hilux 4x4 have no clutch when checking found fluid leaking from rubber boot at the arm pretruding from gear box how do you repair this? cheers roger

bad slave cylinder possible. may even be a bad clutch master cylinder.was leaking from firewall? not bad clutch mastercylinder. was leaking under car on passenger side at front of tranny, but in between motor and tranny where motor bolts to transmission? most likely, bad clutch slave cylinder. having to add brake fluid to clutch master cylinder? having to pump the clutch pedal up to shift gears? either you have a bad clutch slave cylinder[leaking under the car between motor and tranmission] or leaking on firewall [the wall that under dash and under the front window] you may even need a clutch replacement.3 if you need further assistment, repost your question to fixya.com

Clutch pedal goes to floor

Its sounds like a bad clutch cylinder or bad slave cylinder or fluid leaking. First check brake fluid level in clutch master , and check for a leak in clutch system. If there are NO leaks, then you either have a bad clutch cylinder or a slave cylinder. Bleed clutch at bleeder screw on slave cylinder and make sure there is pressure from master cylinder. If there is pressure then slave cylinder may be bad replace slave and bleed and that should take care of you problem. If master is bad then replace bleed system ad you should be good.
