Most likely, the swivel frame that the foil snaps onto has a broken piece(s) of plastic inside making a buzzing sound. If this is the case, you will need to replace the drive unit. You will find this part for model 8585 at shaveroutlet.com. See link below

However, I seriously doubt that tightening anything is the problem. More that likely, the oscillator inside the swivel frame is cracked and causing the sound. You will probably need to replace the drive unit. See link below

It sounds like there is a poor connection which is causing the variable speed that you describe. The poor connection may be in the connection(s) for the new motor but may also be on the switch plate

During shaving the shaver makes a loud grating noise. It works fine otherwise. Even during the cleaning cycle, there is a bit more of that noise. Could it need a new battery?

Most likely, the noise is caused by vibration of a broken piece of plastic in the swivel fframe. If this is the case, the part required to fix it for model 8585 can be found at shaveroutlet.com. See link below

BRAUN SHAVER MOD 7570, SHAVER NO LONGER SHAVES WELL, SHAVER MAKES A LOUD NOISE IT IS SAID I NEED A NEW MOTOR , I CAN'T FIND OUT HOW TO REPLACE IT, HOPE YOU CAN HELP.

You will find the replacement at shaveroutlet.com. See link below.

To open the shaver body, you will first need to gently pry off the 'cap' on the bottom that surrounds the hole where the cord plugs in. Once removed the side grips will pull off revealing 4 screws. Remove screws to take off back cover and access insides. Inner parts simply lift out.
