Garmin nuvi 360

I have a NUVI 1490LMT and it has locked up on me twice about three miles before I reach my destination. Today it locked up again and all I get when I turn it on is the GARMIN title. I was going to try and update the maps but the site does not recognize that I have the unit plugged into the computer....can you help???

With the unit off......... plug in your nuvi with the USB cable to your computer

Go to www.MyGarmin.com

If you haven't registered your unit yet, do it there

It will then detect your unit for any updates

In some nuvi models there is a reset button.But in some nuvi models there is no reset button.you have mentioned only garmin nuvi but not mentioned the model of the garmin nuvi.But still i will mention the reset button location of some garmin nuvi models.Hope that helps you.
The reset button/procedure for garmin nuvi models
In order to reset Garmin device or enter into maintenance mode, perform one of the following procedures:

Power off Garmin unit. Press on continuously the upper top left corner of screen and then power on the unit by pressing once on the Power button. You should be prompted to clear all user data, or asked if do you really want to start up in maintenance mode. Press “Yes” to reset (warning: all data will be erased and lost, so backup before proceeding) or enter maintenance mode.

Turn off Garmin device. Press down on bottom right corner of the touchscreen, and then power on the GPS unit. You should be prompted whether do you really want to erase all user data, or asked if do you really want to start up in maintenance mode. A Garmin Nuvi 1300 that won't start, freezes on 'loading maps,' or is acting erratically is symptomatic of having corrupt firmware.

To correct this, I recommend backing up your favorites, clearing all user data, and if it still is stuck, then updating your Nuvi firmware.

Hi,
Take a look at this site, http://www.garmin.be/missing.html Download and unzip the software, plug your garmin in the USB and start the updater.exe program. It gets you started again. Later on you can use the Webupdater to get possible newer software..
It worked for me and my Zumo550

go buy a tom tom you dont havve to do any downloads to keep it up to date.garmin has to many issues

folks, the garmins have an on-board battery that needs to be powered up (at least occasionally) via the usb port - like from your computer. just using the dc car power cord does nothing for this battery. i've had this exact same problem on both my 760 and 780 nuvi units. fixed it using the usb charge. seems to run down differently for all the various nuvi models. my regular charge will hold for 7 hours on my old 660, my 760 and 780 work about 5 hours. my 'power up' failed on the 660 after 10 months with no internal battery charge, but the 7xx models only took about 5-6 months to 'fail.' hope this helps. jack b :-) in midland, tx usa
