My MP 780 will not auto align the printheads and the manual is too vague on how to manually align them. When I print it seems my black ink is not working although I just replaced the cartridge with a new Canon cartridge. It was empty and I had it out for a while so I thought the head had dried out so I cleaned the heads through the maintenance function on the menu. Now when I print I get a very faint page

I have the same problem. I just replaced the cartridge & it's showing as full on the cartridge display. Have tried auto alignment several times & it fails. Tried manual alignment & can't get the new black print cartridge to print at all.

I've checked the power source connection and it still want turn on.. Its seem there no power going to the printer, but there is power. Can this be a power switch in side the mp780.

Auto Head alignment has failed twice. Do I try until it works?

This depends on why it is failing. You can try to perform a manual alignment through the software if it will let you,(printers, properties, preferences, services, alignment) or just don't align the carts if not necessary (you don't see print defects). On this older model, it is possible that it is related to a scanner issue as well.

Hi anyone there

Clean the encoder strip with alcohol free glass cleaner and a couple of qtips. The encoder strip is the clear strip of plastic that runs behind the print head assy the width of the printer it tells the print head where it is in relation to the page. If it is dirty you will have a hard time with alignment

Canon Pixma MP780 Printer - black 3e fails to print

installed a new Print-Head, but that was no changes. I use refill ink, and it seams the BlackInkTank is not exactly on the Printhead and it is Air in the Pipe, i take the Printhead and the Ink-Cardridge in the Bathroom, and press the Ink-cardrige on the Printhead and take a hard breath and blow in the Air-Holes of the Ink-Cardrige until black ink come out of the Printhead, reinstall in the Printer, end it works well.
