This depends on why it is failing. You can try to perform a manual alignment through the software if it will let you,(printers, properties, preferences, services, alignment) or just don't align the carts if not necessary (you don't see print defects). On this older model, it is possible that it is related to a scanner issue as well.
Clean the encoder strip with alcohol free glass cleaner and a couple of qtips. The encoder strip is the clear strip of plastic that runs behind the print head assy the width of the printer it tells the print head where it is in relation to the page. If it is dirty you will have a hard time with alignment
Use the cleaning cycle first. If it completes do a nozzle check and then to align follow below.
You need to hook it up to computer to do a manual head align through the printer properties maintenance section.
installed a new Print-Head, but that was no changes. I use refill ink, and it seams the BlackInkTank is not exactly on the Printhead and it is Air in the Pipe, i take the Printhead and the Ink-Cardridge in the Bathroom, and press the Ink-cardrige on the Printhead and take a hard breath and blow in the Air-Holes of the Ink-Cardrige until black ink come out of the Printhead, reinstall in the Printer, end it works well.
