You may have to go in to the bios and enable booting from the cd rom.

F11...system recovery in hp laptop

System recovery is for serious disk/operating system corruption problems. There is a system recovery partition on HP laptops that contains routines to restore your laptop to the configuration it came from the factory with. Backup all your personal files to a CD or USB stick or portable hard drive before using system recovery as it will erase anything you have added to your primary hard drive since it left the factory. That can especially be a problem if you have upgraded to a newer version of Windows than what your laptop came with, as HP is somewhat 'known' for not upgrading the recovery partition if you don't have recovery CD's for the new operating system bought from HP. If your recovery partition has been erased or corrupted, you will have to either use HP recovery CD's (which may be available from HP if your laptop is new enough)
or do a format and complete installation from the proper Windows installation CD. Either way, your personal files are toast if you don't back them up first. In some cases of operating system failure, you can get an external USB drive box, put your old HDD in it and use another computer to try and read files from the disk to try and save your personal files.

When i boot up my laptop i am getting the error message, "operating system not found." Can you please give me advice on what to do to fix my laptop? Toshiba laptop and im scared i may lose the things

Your hard drive is missing from the system. Or, just does not recognize it. The obvious - Remove any USB devices like drives and any media from disc player. Its trying to load, but can't find bootable hard drive, CD, or USB... Remove the hard drive and reseat (reconnect). Check BIOS by pressing an F key during boot. Look on the screen for correct Function key. Might be F2 key. Verify BIOS recognizes the drive. It must be listed! There is no going forward if it's not. Check boot order and make internal hard drive first. Save and restart.

I have a PCG-9A4N notebook, i really had a hard time opening it now. OPERATING SYSTEM NOT FOUND.,this was displayed in the monitor. how do i deal with it. im not a computer person. thats why i have...

The notebook cannot boot up because the operating system could not be found. This can be caused be a faulty hard drive or it may be as simple as re-seating the hard drive so it makes proper connection.
If you are keen on removing and re-seating the hard drive and since you are not "a computer person" I suggest you get a computer savy friend to help you or take the notebook to your friendly computer repair shop.
If the hard drive is faulty then to get the notebook working again, the faulty hard drive needs replacing, Windows to be installed on the new hard drive, plus the notebook's device drivers and your programs need to be installed and finally the Windows Update files.

I bought a new hard disk for my vgn-nr120e because the old one was corrupted and im trying to install it but my comp is just displaying an all black screen(it appears to be off) but the led light is on and...

Since you say, you have a new hard disk I am assuming you have not formatted it or there is an operation system on it. If that is the case, power on your laptop. As soon as you does this start pressing F2 (intermittently = press, then release) and keep on doing it till you get into the bios screen. Once you are there change the boot sequence to CD drive first (It will be on Harddisk at present) Once you have made the first boot device to CD drive, open the CD drive and put an operating system CD like XP, Vista or Windows 7. Save and exit from the bios screen. Restart the computer. It will say press any key to boot from CD drive. Press any key. The system will come to the operating system installation screen. Install the operating system. If in doubt get assistance in getting someone to install the operating system. Without the operating sytem or a bootable CD once the Bios hands it over to the system there is nothing to display and you do not see anything on the screen. It looks like that is your problem. Good luck.

Cannot open cd-rom drive!

The thing about cd/dvd drives in general is that they die and thats the case here even if you deleted anything of the operating system its self would notice that the cd drive was missing the driver and ask you about it since you havent stated that its safe to say that the drive is dead

Xp not installing

first configure your hard drive in the bios set your harddrive as primary drive then configure the booting setup you must boot first the CD ROM drvsave setting and exit. Then if you have a bootable disc installer for XP any OS insert in in the CD ROM drve. wait for a while then follow the instruction that goes out in the desktop.

Need help!!!

depending on the brand... you need to press a function key (F2, F9, F10, or F12 keys) to get into the BIOS and you need to change the boot sequence to start booting on your CD or DVD drive. but the operating system disc should be in the disc drive before doing this.

Problem with my COMPAQ Presario 900Z Notebook

I already answered this question. Your operating system cd is the cd you need to follow my instructions.

If you MUST get the information out NOW, you can bring the laptop to any computer repair center or buy a laptop drive adapter at your local Office Depot or Staples, and then plug it into your pc via USB.
