i guess i made up my mind...i called cannon and the tech tried to help me fix it over the phone...we tried everything and it still shows the error message and he recommended the same thing...SEND IT IN TO THE FACTORY SERVICE . I have a feeling its something to do with the lens...coz all these error messages comes on only when the lens is on;.plus I switch on the AF on my lens and on the LCD it shows as MF.anything i do on the lens doesnt seem to be picked up by the camera . well i paid almost a $1000 for the lens and camera so i am going to send it in!!!! thanks again.

This is a generic answer:

Inside of most of the lens units, there is a servo amplifier that drives the motors for the lens operation. The servo control board is most likely defective or one of the ribbon assemblies that works with it is defective.

You would not be able to service this yourself. The lens will require factory service.

In the camera there is a communications circuit that is in the electronics. This can also give a fault condition that would give the same or a similiar type of error code.

Send both the camera and lens unit to have proper verification and service.

I would suggest to ask for an estimate when you send the camera in. This way, you can make an intelligent decision if the camera is worth to service.

In your case, the camera should be very well worth to service.

I would ask them if they offer extended warrenties for your model type. I know with some of the higher end models they sell service contracts and extended warrenties.

It sounds like the lens isn't properly compatible with your camera which can be common on third party lenses. You can either set the lense and the camera to manual focus and focus the images by hand or sell the lens and find one that works in auto mode with your camera.

I have bought canon D40. Problem "ERR 01 Communication between Camera & Lens". I bought the camera in 2009 jan. Can take pic at night with flash but day time i cant. Please help. Lens is super clean.

Get the camera sensor, the mirror and the lens attachment junction with the camera checked. And if you use the camera in auto mode, and there's ambient light, the camera wont fire the flash, coz of its auto light detecting sensor.

Nikon D70 lens won't let me shoot

Remove the lens being careful not to get dirt/dust in the camera(very important).

Clean the metal contacts around the lens and on the camera where the lens and camera meet. Your error sounds like a lens communication error.

Again!!! Do Not Get dust/dirt/moisture/ anything in the camera.

I have a Canon Rebel XT EOS Every time i take a pic I get an Err 99. I have taken the battery out and memory card for 5 Min. If i do that I can take about 5 or 6 pics before I get that message again. What...

Try the following diagnosis steps: -

To isolate the cause of the issue, do the following: -
1. Turn off the camera.
2. Remove the lens, battery, and CF card.
3. Allow the camera to sit without power for approximately 20 minutes.
4. Insert only a fully charged battery, and turn on the camera.
5. Depress the shutter button as you would to take a picture.

Does the “ERR 99" message appear? If so, the camera may be faulty and requires a service. If it does not, then: -
1. Turn off the camera.
2. Insert the CF card.
3. Turn on the camera.
4. Format the CF card in the camera.
5. Depress the shutter button as you would to take a picture.

Does the “ERR 99" message appear? If so, then the CF card is faulty. Try a different card. If the message does not appear: -
1. Turn off the camera.
2. Clean the gold contacts on the lens by GENTLY rubbing them with a pencil eraser or soft cloth. Keeping the camera face pointing down, also clean the gold contacts on the camera, being careful that you do not let any debris fall into the camera body.
3. Reattach your lens.
4. Turn on the camera.
5. Depress the shutter button as you would to take a picture.

If the “ERR 99" message only appears when one particular lens is attached, then that lens should be examined by a service technician.
If you see the “ERR 99" with a different Canon lens attached, then the camera is faulty and should be serviced.

Lens Errors 17 & 27 on Sanyo VPC-E760

My camera was showing lens error 12&25 and then shutting off. I tried gently trying to twist and pull the furthest out part of the lens and it popped back into place easily. It made a noise when it did this, and then i turned the camera off, and the lens went back in!! Completely fixed now!!

Lcd reads system error

Apparently often related to a lens motor malfunction. My old 4300 just gave this error for the first time today. The lens extended but made a whirring noise before the message popped up. Nothing I tried would fix it - but after I drove home it worked fine again.

I had a similar problem over a year ago after the camera fell out of my backpack (it was in its own bag but not well padded). When I used it the lens stuck and refused to retract, but I don't recall a "System Error" message. After a few tries, the lens went in and it's been fine since, until today.

Make sure there's nothing (dust, dirt) stuck in the lens barrels. Otherwise, just keep turning it on and off and hope it works.
