There is a pressure switch that locks the compressor out if the system pressure drops below a given point.

2000 pontiac grand prix ac problem


If the compressor is working, a mechanic would check the low and high gauge pressure.
The freon has to flow thru the system to work, and the cooling fan draws air thru the condenser to get rid of the heat from inside the car.
If the ac clutch is working but the gauges show equal pressure, the compressor may be faulty.

How do u kick the ac compresaron on


There should be a sensor that connects to the rigid A/C line leading from the compressor, disconnect that and place a paperclip (or something to complete the circuit) inside the plug and it will kick the compressor on.

no from the top there are normally 2 to 4 bolts depending the make of compressor

My pontiac vibe Ac has stopped working..it started taking a long time to kick in ...now it only kicks on for a short time if im lucky.


the clutch on the ac compressor is going out.

replace the ac compressor (when you push the a/c button it should imidiately kick the compressor on).

also check the connection on the compressor, along with the fuses.

did you open the hp swich located on the high pressure ac lin you have to open the hp swich w/a paperclip in the harnes to open the system to accept the freon your trying to put in open the circut then fill
